Used to see it everytime universal healthcare was discussed. So I wonder about it now

I think the target audience for that particular fear mongering is dead now

The target was suburban elderly people who were comfortable but otherwise precarious in terms of healthcare, either because of poorly maintained health, expense of treatment, or both. And it's been like 16 years since I last heard the term "death panel." I gotta assume time and covid just wiped out that whole demographic.

Also like other people have said it's kinda nonsense to fear monger about death panels when that concept is real, but it's private insurance providers denying claims. A conservative couldn't come out today and say "the liberals want to have a shadowy group deciding if it's financially viable to render treatment for your grandpa" because that's already a real thing and it's what united and Blue Cross Blue shield do

That's always been the reason why there was fear mongering over death panels to begin with. "Every accusation is a confession" is true because attacking your opposition for the thing you're already doing is an effective propaganda tactic for mudding the water.
