Imagine having dehumanized workers to the point that all you see them as is statistics for shareholders to squeeze. This kind of idealism leads to miscalculations and unexpected consequences. He is completely oblivious to the fact that "hurt consumers" have a tendency to lash out with violence and take what they need to end their pain.
