It’s great that Atari reached out ahead of time and didn’t seek to shut down OpenTTD. It’s pretty normal to need a copy of the original game to play an open source recreation of the engine: OpenMW, LZDoom, ScummVM, etc. So this seems like a win-win all round.
Wait. To play OpenTTD, you don't need a copy of the original game. OpenTTD already has its own resources available for free download.
