Explanation: At the Battle of Crecy, the English used their then-new adoption of the longbow, as used by yeomen (middle-class farmers who had time enough to practice the longbow) as a vital component in the defeat of a larger French force.

In the sci-fi franchise Battletech, one of the giant war mech designs that are foundational to the series is called the Yeoman.
