Developers can release their work as a web app instead of going through Apple’s store. Alternative stores aren’t actually required. The EU does not have a great record of understanding the impacts when it comes to their technology laws. We all have that annoying pop up. Where is the next cable standard going to come from now that everyone is forced to use usb-c? Technology development and market reactions outside the EU

Nope. Apple blocks those apps.

What? Apple allows PWAs, though only with Safari as far as I know.

Its the app store that's the issue. its apple preventing third party distribution on their platforms. no one cares about the store itself its the active and hostile approach apple takes to preventing distribution to their devices that doesnt go through their overly priced shitty store/payment systems. Webapps are not comparable to native applications for all situations.
