I watched him for a while. And I'd say 95% of the tims, it's fine. Chitchat, banter, technical things. But then the remaining 5% of the time, there's suddenly a weird off the cuff remark, something that really seems like a dogwhistle, or just otherwise strange turn of phrase that makes me go huh? and rewind.
I know that's not a lot individually, but over time it added up enough that I stopped watching.
Do you have any specific examples? I have not seen him enough to find any
My problem with such a list is, that you can always find ans justify a reason to put it here. Most people reading these lists aren't familiar and have no personal experience and opinion, but will take his word for. If you stopped watching him because of reasons, its your opinion and that is valid. I am not against that! But people looking at these lists will avoid them and think they are bad persons. Yes in some cases they probably are, but the viewer cannot know (that's why they look into these lists).
Tell me one person who is not weird.
This is solved by literally asking the person why they said / did something.
Most of the time they'll say they weren't aware of the problem, didn't mean to lend credence with their name to the problematic thing, and undo/rescind what they originally did/said.
When it's obvious the person was ignorant and on having learnt information would have acted differently, they're removed from those lists.
As DHH's behavior started becoming known amongst the greater developer community, Prime did an interview with him essentially praising him. Prime's fans asked him why he did that and if he knew about DHH's issues and Prime stayed silent. 6 months later he started trying to glow up DHH again, and he's still trying to do it.
At this point, Prime's silence speaks volumes.
As said, my point isn't about Prime what he did or not, I am talking about the having such a list in the first place. This is not solved by literally asking the person. Imagine 10 thousand people see the list and everyone asks about it? No. Such lists are bad for society, they always were. This can be misused.
I say it again: Nobody should create and publish a list of "bad" (the word "weird" is just used as a synonymous here) persons just by personal opinion, different views in politics and such. That's my issue. I just picked Prime as an example because I did not agree on that point, but that is not my main argumentation. Anyone having an issue with him is fine, having an issue is not my problem. Having such lists and publish them is my problem.
We already know that they can be misused and have solutions for it.
First we validate the claims in the list and counterclaims against the list. Secondly, lists that are false or outdated get put on ignore lists, and lists that are shown to be correct and up-to-date end up going on trusted lists. Thirdly, those ignore and trust lists are put through the same process themselves. Forth, new inputs constantly come through at the lowest level which means that lists (and metalists) themselves are always updating. This means they can never reach an equilibrium or a top level list which could allow a trusting trust attack. It's trust but verify the whole way down.
And we know it works.
That's how we have email anti-spam lists, adblocking lists, malware lists, etc...
You fail to understand we are talking about humans, not about spam, ad or malware. Talking about humans like that and putting lists like this is what Hitler would do.
