Yesterday I went grocery shopping with the guy I’m staying with, and it was so fun it felt like a trip in itself, lol.

We are translucent to X-rays, but we're also translucent to visible light up to a certain depth, and I can make my fingers glow red with my phone's flashlight! That's so weird.

Also, just look at how far away you can see things (if you can see, if you don't know what it's like imagine like hearing but wit, uh, a wider range?).

How the hell do you know that the sun or the moon or the stars are there?! They're so far but you can still detect them with your eyes (though ideally you wouldn't stare at the sun, but y'know what I mean)

Also it's crazy that the universe is like 13 billion years old according to science, but for me the universe started when I was born (and for everyone else but relative to their date of birth), or even when I started remembering things, so I have to deduce that things happened before I "started experiencing" by looking at their indirect effects, as I wasn't there to live through those things because I didn't exist yet.

There will be people who don't exist yet. Wow.

What's even crazier to me is that the universe can potentially last trillions of years before its heat death, so it's still very young, relatively speaking. And eventually everything will be so far apart that future beings won't even be able to know that other planets exist in the universe. We just got here early enough to find out.

Dull Men's Club is a fantastic fediverse community where this kind of stuff tends to be discussed.

Finding something I search for on internet.

The last one was "why my tractor smoke so much". As a mechanic I already know the common possibility and as all was good it was something specific to this engine.

Reading a forum from 2010 without using restrictive search term give me a lots of stories from other people. And finally after hour of reading I found someone with the similar problem and one of the advice was to check the injectors orientation..

The concept of Memories...

The concept of Forgetting...

The idea of existing as a child that has no responsibilities... The idea of Childhood... The idea of Nostalgia...

I have chemicals in my brain that preserved a different "now"...

I remember I used to be a little boy that was loved by parents...

aaahhh I wanna be a kid again.

I wanna be cuddle by mom and not have to worry about "responsibilities"... things like money or jobs

I remember when I was a kid, and I was often with my mom, and adults would be like "is this your son" to my mom and my heart would LIGHT UP for some reason when I get talked about positively (or even neutrally). Especially when its 1st Gen Chinese Diasporas and they're like "does he speak 中文 (Chinese)" (feels kinda gramatically incorrect btw 中文 is technically the written language) and I instantly feel so proud of my self for being multilingual (English, Cantonese, Mandarin)... I felt a sense of superiority compared to American-Born Chinese... mom was like "oh he does"... I can't express in words how good that felt when I get praised lol... they seems to be so surprised that I can speak Mandarin too and read

Just all the standard questiois like: "how old is is he?" makes me feel good... cuz it validated my existence... like another being other than my immediate family has recognized my existence. I EXIST. THEY'RE TALKING ABOUE ME UWU 🥹.

Like I overhear my mom's phone conversations a lot. I FEEL SOO GOOD WHEN THEY TALK ABOUT ME indirectly. Like the "my younger son is [age] years old" and I FEEL SO MUCH JOY hearing that...

just pure childhood

I obsess about memories a lot...

I sometimes fear I wake up one day without my memories... who the fuck would I even be anymore? I'd effectively "died".

I like when cats yawn and I can see inside their mouths.

[–] WoodScientist@lemmy.world 8 points 6 hours ago (1 children)

I like to stick my finger in there when they yawn. The sheer look of confusion on their face is so worth it.

When I walk into my kitchen and everything is clean and put away, and running my hand over the countertop that feels as pristine as a prepped operating room.

Games that emulate real life.

I'm enamored by games where every item is touchable and moveable and nothing is a game prop. Games like long drive, superliminal, are my jam

[–] Jumbie@lemmy.zip 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Similarly, playing games in VR and just being able to pick up items and move them realistically.

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 hours ago

Was just playing vr so yes this came to mind as well

Fishermen's tale is a must play

Every aspect of life! The pure idea of life! Nature! The pure concept of cooking, things changing flavour and music being able to carry emotions and szenerie!

I'm turning an elm that I dug out of my flower bed into a bonsai. When I pulled it up I accidentally stripped a long section of the trunk. It's been in a pot for nearly a year now and that stripped section is scarring over nicely, normally it takes people ages to get something this gnarly looking but I got it by accident.

I've also been cooking with carne de soya. In the US we call it "textured vegetable protein" and either way it's basically crumbled, dried tofu. It's a poor people food in Mexico. When cooked, it's identical in texture to a 50/50 mix of ground beef and pork. It's functionally flavorless on its own but due to the drying process it works as a sponge for anything you put it in. Mix some spices and liquid into a slurry, give it 10 min to marinade, you have the perfect meat for any dish. I do mean any liquid, the other day I made chili, mixed the soya with a spicier blend than I use for the chili itself, some pale ale, and some bacon fat I had saved from breakfast. The chili kept it's usual flavor, but each bite of the soya tasted like spicey pork sausage. Two distinct yet complementary flavors in one pot and the two pounds worth of "meat" only cost 97¢. Doesn't even need to be complicated like that, bag of soya, can of kidney beans, can of sloppy Joe sause, half an onion, salt, pepper, garlic, Worcestershire, all in a crock pot on low. 6 hours later and it's the best sloppy Joe I've ever made. Better than the weeks I spent making my own sause from scratch. I call it Tojos.

[–] GrantUsEyes@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (1 children)

I'm a weirdo and I love the 'taste' of the soya after it's been hidrated with salted, oregano infused water. Texture is so great, I can eat fists full of it while cooking before seasoning it. XD

[–] Postmortal_Pop@lemmy.world 1 points 33 minutes ago

Honestly that's not far off in taste and texturw from cheese. Kind of makes me wonder how it would taste in whey brine

Noticing biodiversity as migrating birds return for spring and flowers start popping out of the ground. If you don't have it yet, check out the Merlin app, it can identify birds by their song and you can save them... Kinda like mundane adult Pokemon

Trains. Seeing them come and go in the station.

Sound of rain on the window panes. It is a wonderful sound.

Been homeless for a couple of years when I was young and everytime I am happy and appreciative to be where I am now with small things like rain, or taking a warm shower for example, eventhough it has been decades ago I have been homeless.

I often still have dreams not being able to find my home.

I enjoy catching sequential numbers on digital clocks. I smile real big when I catch one at 12:34.

[–] DagwoodIII@piefed.social 9 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

12:34:56.

We used to have giant digital clocks all over the place where I worked.

As I've got older, things like a new fridge or washing machine, something normally really boring. Got a new toaster recently and was so excited to use it 😂

Cycling on rail trails and long isolated bike paths. Getting from A to B without burning any fossil fuel. I live in an archipelago and pull my inflatable kayak to the river and the lakes nearby using a bike trailer.

Discovering a new post from the @violet08@lemmy.today saga in my feed. The quality varies but they can be pretty entertaining and engaging.

Heck, it was one of these posts which just recently compelled me to actually interact with the community after years of lurking. So thank you for that, I guess.
