I lost my phone a couple of days ago and started using my partners old iPhone.

I've used android for 10+ years and got use to new features they came out. Starting from scratch on an iPhone, I'm curious if there are any recommendations of apps/services/features I should use to get the best out of it.

I'm currently not in the apple ecosystem so I already feel like I'm missing out on a lot of the benefits of a apple device.

Congrats!

If you have specific questions, ask them. There’s an alternative method to accomplish everything to which you’ve grown accustomed.

The most important thing, in my opinion, is this: It’s a change so don’t get discouraged. Just take the time to learn the new navigation and it’ll quickly become muscle memory.

EDIT: Download the shortcuts app and look into creating some for yourself.

Thanks for the recommendation. I will they it out.

Navigation is definitely the biggest thing I need to get use to. I do miss having a constant back gesture. Still getting use to the keyboard too.

Swiping from one side of the screen in a continuous motion across the screen to the other side is a built-in “back” gesture. You can also swipe (without lifting your finger from the screen) from the bottom and all your running apps will be easily and quickly selectable.

Here’s a handy list of gestures directly from Apple.

More gestures for FaceID iPhone models.

Waze is my preferred navigation method. Probably preference but I find it better than Google Maps.

Not preference and actual fact: Do not trust Apple Maps to navigate to unfamiliar places. Just last year it took me to the edge of a North Carolina swamp in the dark. Then it dared to tell me, “you’ve arrived at your destination.”

The memes are accurate. Apple Maps is not always reliable.

This makes me so happy.
