I think that just leaves VRR for complete HDMI 2.1, although it will likely be a while before this all trickles down to mainline kernels. Presumably Freesync over HDMI will work too for even earlier support.

So reading a bit more closely these are patches for the mainline kernel, so hopefully this isn't far off being in a released kernel (provided there isn't a long back and forth because of issues etc).

From what I read somewhere one time they have had the implementations done for a while now. The only blocker was the HDMI fourm refusing to let them upstream the changes. So hopefully it won't take too long to hit mainline for this or very.
