"accusing her of supporting bike lanes"

I'm sorry what? Accusing?

[–] audible_obituary@lemm.ee 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I'm doxxing myself a bit here, but this just happened in the last mayoral election in my city (I'm in Canada). Amazing progressive candidate had a solid following but the opposition ran a smear campaign focused on tearing them down over "expensive bike lanes!!!" and how they would cost too much and increase traffic. This is despite the fact that the progressive had a much more airtight financial plan focused on increasing city revenue by improving public transit among other things. It was a wildly successful smear campaign.

Fast forward a bit and the guy that won has been begging the next tiers of government for money and slashing transit. Suburban carbrained NIMBYs don't care or don't realise the reality. Bike lanes are the devil to them.

Carbrain here. FFS, give me bike lanes and public transit. And walkable spaces.

I don't need to drive EVERYWHERE. I also want there to be fewer cars on the road when I do need to drive.

You are not a carbrain. You are a dude with a brain and someone who likes to drive a car.

[–] boonhet@lemm.ee 4 points 22 hours ago

Maybe pistonhead is more accurate than carbrain. I'm REALLY into cars. Love internal combustion engines. I still want to be able to walk to the bar because I ain't driving there and I don't want to have to use a ride hailing app either. Luckily in my city, I have that freedom.

Heck no, you ain't a carbrain in my mind if you support transit and bike lanes. I don't see being a car enthusiast as an inherent fault. And although I was forced to buy a car given the circumstances of my city, I've really come to love my little Honda Fit :)

What kills me are the people I talk to seemingly every other day who make the worst excuses for why we "need" another highway lane, or who vehemently oppose bike lanes and city spending on transit despite the fact that these things literally benefit everybody.

Wait until they find out she's against air pollution too. And cancer.

[–] Donebrach@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Anyone with half a brain who lives in Boston likely doesn’t want more cars on the road.

Is this some.sort of American polotical ploy I'm unaware of? accuse your opponent of being sane and sensible, is that a pejorative now ?

Always has been

John Keller can suck my balls

[–] SimplyTadpole@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 21 hours ago

Who cares about stinky bike lanes anyway, just add one more lane bro, surely adding a 20th lane will make all the traffic congestion go away, who would even want to ride a bike instead of getting stuck in traffic jams all day? /s

This is like being accused of being super attractive and nice

[–] AdamEatsAss@lemmy.world 11 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Don't worry mate, your alibi's rock solid on this one.

[–] wetsoggybread@lemmy.world 43 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Oh what a travesty, not bike lanes in crowded Boston. Someone please save me from this horror

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

If you ride a bike, you're a gay commie terrorist climate hugger!

[–] nodiratime@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Dare I.... Accuse you of wanting bike lanes too?

[–] 9point6@lemmy.world 32 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Weird traffic loving idiots

Bike lanes reduce traffic

[–] Crankenstein@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

They would need the ability to think critically to understand how it reduces traffic. Sadly, they can't think beyond two steps in front of their own faces.

[–] AdamEatsAss@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

But my commute -s

[–] x00z@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

I never heard the world laugh but yes, it's laughing at America.

[–] BigDaddySlim@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

At this point I didn't even drive in Boston anymore, I take the commuter rail into the city and subway from there. Why people are acting like that's an absurd possibility is astonishing to me. Yes, traffic in Boston sucks, but mainly because too many people from outside would rather drive in and complain about the traffic they're causing than the cheaper and much easier alternative of taking transit into the city. As for the actual residents, there's great public transportation, just fucking take it. You really wanna pay all that money for parking and vehicle maintenance just to sit at every red light to get somewhere maybe 3 min faster? Get a grip. If I lived in the city the first thing I'd do is sell my car and use my electric assist bike for everything, I already use it to get to work in the Metrowest, you can do it in the city.

Fuck bike lanes. We need politicians with spines who will install barriers in roads to block cars from them

[–] chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I thought in the Netherlands there were bike paths entirely separate from roads. The Netherlands has so many great urban planning ideas we need to copy.

[–] jagged_circle@feddit.nl 1 points 1 day ago

I much prefer Berkeley. Where every 10 roads or so were converted to bicycle boulevards.
