I hate the current crop of democrats. At least the republicans are up front about putting your neighbors in camps and denying your grandma medicine. The dems a like really bad friends who constantly stab you in the back.

Remember, EVERY TIME they complain about that super majority hurdle to "overcome the filibuster", they can always make it a simple majority vote.

They call it the "nuclear option" ever since Trent Lott the Republican came up with the term in 2000s. bOtH pArTiEs immediately adopted the term, because it scares the ever-loving shit out of voters.

Before then, it was called the "constitutional option", since bills can always be passed with a simple majority vote.

They're not even hiding it... because it's that easy to manipulate the electorate. "nuclear option", check it out

Seriously? I mean a few decades ago you might have been able to feign ignorance about how corrupt and flat out evil the GOP is. Even then it was a bit of a stretch, but at least they had some semblance of decency.

But today? With ICE, Epstein, etc.? Everyone who wasn't evil would have left the party years ago - or would have been kicked out if they tried to change anything.

Yes, let's reach across the aisle, right into this pool of nazis, pedos and criminals! Sounds great! What exactly is it you are searching for?

If you sit at the table with Nazis, you're a Nazi, right?

Democrats sit at the table and vote with Republicans all of the time... just enough. Figure it out.

By that logic, she should have a few Greens and Libertarians too, but nope, they won't allow third parties within sniffing distance of any meaningful position.

I can understand the sentiment of "we're incredibly divided and this isn't healthy for our country's future", but you don't promise the kids that you're going to keep working on the marriage when he comes home drunk and beats everyone

[–] Quokka@quokk.au 24 points 18 hours ago

This is more like he comes home drunk and you tag team beating the kids.

They see that people view political polarization as an issue, so they decide to align themselves with the most polarizing people in order to reduce polarization. What could go wrong?

Observing this with how Trump presented himself in 2014, and Fetterman.
Will Platner reengage this strat?

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 5 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

I don't think so.

Both parties came out hard against Platner, and they only do that against people who they know mean it when they say they'll vote against the billionaires, like Sanders or Mamdani. They swift-boated Sanders as a supposed sexist and Mamdani as a supposed jihadist or whatever.

It's nice to see that all the shit-slinging by the Democrats and their buddies in the media hasn't amounted to anything.

You must have missed out on the 2014 campaign then. The GOP hated trump.

Democrats in the US just like losing too much.

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 14 points 21 hours ago

Lots of democrats are controlled oppo, and the basic structure of US government has been hijacked by private interests masquerading as a duopoly, but I still think some genuine people get involved with their party, and in enough numbers they could have turned the tide.

I just think it's too little, too late. Much too late, now. I'd still vote for a Dem president, but only to ensure my good standing as a justified complainer.

[–] BigMacHole@thelemmy.club 7 points 21 hours ago

This is the BEST Solution because Republicans who would LITERALLY RATHER DIE THAN VOTE DEMOCRAT will still Not Vote for you! But ALSO Democrats won't vote for you! She EARNED that Doctorate!
