Fun fact about Somaliland: despite it not being recognized by most of the world (Israel kinda does but only because they wanted to do shit opposite Yemen) and being seen as a "breakaway state", it's actually richer, more stable, safer, and more developed than the Country it broke away from: Somalia.

I’ve got no data to prove or disprove this gut feeling of mine, but aren’t most separatist movements motivated like this?

[–] lyralycan@sh.itjust.works 13 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Abbiistabbii reminding us that the things the governments tell us about anti-state movements (like the idea that without their government there is no law or morals) aren't exactly true, they're only a biased perspective from those scared of losing power over the public. Fwiw I don't think any group is 'bad' just because they got together and separated from state control, I think it's great that can still happen.

[–] cockmushroom@reddthat.com 4 points 3 weeks ago

Nothing says separating from state control like building your own state off bucks

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago

Motivated by it, yes, often. Successful at it? Rarely.

[–] Geobloke@aussie.zone 10 points 3 weeks ago

Funnily enough, Taiwan recognises them. I feel like there's a decent Polandball comic there

The fool, once you have the AK you just rob them at gunpoint for the iPhone

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 27 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Thing is, you could use the AK to simply take the iPhone.

[–] Hupf@feddit.org 30 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Are you crazy? There's police nearby.

[–] DupaCycki@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Does the police have AKs though?

[–] LH0ezVT@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 weeks ago

Well, not any more apparently

[–] KuroiKaze@lemmy.world 25 points 3 weeks ago

I do the deal then immediately rob him with my new gun, by this action he will realize I'm American and we'll pivot to doing dance videos on tiktok

[–] canniest_tod@lemmy.world 12 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yes. That Somali AK is undoubtedly full auto and the gobermint won't let me buy one commercially because apparently we live in soviet russia... which is where AKs come from.

Don't hassle me about this.

[–] Siegfried@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

Somali Gobermint is refreshing AF

[–] aviationeast@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Depending on where you are at, might be the safest choice. Bring an extra and make nuco the deal includes the bullets.

[–] Gonzako@lemmy.world 13 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

The way I see it is youre not getting past the airport with an AK. So an iphone for renting an AK isnt a good deal

[–] EggInDisguise@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

You can ship it to yourself quite easily if you follow customs regs.

Easier if you sneak it in with cargo that just gets tossed on a truck as soon as it comes in. That's cheaper but riskier though.

[–] Gonzako@lemmy.world 22 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Pardon my inexperience in arms-traffiking

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

if steven "shuffle of fury" seagull can do it, so can you

[–] itsjustachairmary@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah but seagulls can just carry it

[–] brown567@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Are you suggesting that AKs migrate!?

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

what if it grasped it by the magazine?

[–] aviationeast@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

An iPhone for your life is a good deal in my book. Ah sucks I'm feeling generous today, why not both.

[–] Ulvain@sh.itjust.works 5 points 3 weeks ago

That's a great deal - most people would agree to trade their phone for a single bullet

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 weeks ago

That’s some trigger discipline even on the magazine.

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago) (1 children)

Is rounded side still a thing? Despite bad usability and worse repairability?

[–] BrickEater@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

Sadly yes

[–] MasterNerd@lemmy.zip 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

That's his phone, not the phone he's trading for. Idk why he needs another phone but there are plenty of possible reasons

[–] LH0ezVT@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

I mean, if he had an iPhone, he wouldn't meet to barter for one, right?
