[–] twocupsofsugar@lemmy.world 38 points 1 day ago

[–] kindenough@kbin.earth 109 points 1 day ago

Your mom loves you

[–] ExistentialKiwi@lemmy.world 54 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Ok, but an apple, banana, watermelon, and kiwi sandwich actually sounds really good though.

[–] Blackmist@feddit.uk 4 points 16 hours ago

Shame this is all onions.

[–] OnlyJabs@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (3 children)

The mouth feel would be abysmal. Especially with the inclusion of banana.

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 16 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Skill issue.

[–] zipzoopaboop@lemmynsfw.com 10 points 1 day ago

Definitely going to slip and bite your tongue or lip

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 72 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I would prefer this over McDonald's trash any day of the week. Apples, watermelon, bananas, kiwis? This isn't like raw broccoli or something, it's all fresh delicious fruit.

[–] vaionko@sopuli.xyz 6 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Are you implying raw broccoli isn't delicious?

[–] Captain_Patchy@lemmy.world 3 points 5 hours ago

If you are less than about 20 the bitter flavor is too prominent for most people. Same reason younger folks don't like unsweetened black coffee. It takes a while to grow out of the sensitivity to bitter flavors we are born with.

[–] LadyMeow@lemmy.blahaj.zone 57 points 1 day ago

That’s so cute, it would totally work on me

[–] kelpie_returns@lemmy.world 39 points 1 day ago

As an ungrateful little urchin, I would have been pissed ngl. As an adult tho, I can see that this is so freaking sweet and cool.

[–] MemmingenFan923@feddit.org 13 points 1 day ago (1 children)

In a parallel universum kids want this really bad and they hate fast food.

[–] GregorGizeh@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

"No, my son can't come out and play today. He hasn't finished his lunch transfats for the third day in a row and is grounded until he learns to appreciate the empty carbs I work hard to put on the table."

[–] ObtuseDoorFrame@lemm.ee 15 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

It's so funny that kids often don't like fruit. Like, "no I want my sugar without chewing! How dare you make me chew. Fiber bad, candy good."

[–] bstix@feddit.dk 2 points 22 hours ago

If you have kids, try cutting sticks of cucumber and carrots. Serve them in a bowl next to a bowl of candy. See which gets eaten first.

[–] Dave@lemmy.nz 21 points 1 day ago (3 children)

Is it true or just a stereotype? My kids love fruit. We go through probably 6kg of fruit a week, half of that is bananas and the rest is a mix of all sorts.

They obviously love candy too but they don't complain about fruit.

Vegetables on the other hand... Fiber without (much) sugar is offensive.

[–] lmmarsano@lemmynsfw.com 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Vegetables on the other hand

A dietician once explained to me that children are extra-sensitive to bitter flavors like those of vegetables, and this sensitivity grows milder with age, so their special aversion is only natural. I recall feeling extremely hostile to vegetables then at some age feeling shocked that I no longer knew what the fuss was about & could appreciate them more.

Blanching those vegetables to subdue the bitterness may be especially important for a kid's palate.

[–] ObtuseDoorFrame@lemm.ee 9 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I suppose it depends on the kid. Fruit seemed like a punishment to me when I was younger, and then when I got older I wondered how I could have been so ridiculous.

Maybe I disliked it because "the man" wanted me to eat it because it was healthy. Maybe the rebellious kids are the ones who hated fruit, but not because of the taste.

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

I liked fruits occasionally, until a kindergarden teacher forced me to eat an apple with worms. Since then, I have an extreme aversion to most fruits, except banana and citruses.

[–] fluffykittycat@slrpnk.net 9 points 1 day ago

It's also possible that in places like school lunches they get the cheapest possible thing whereas you can choose quality food as an adult

[–] Broadfern@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I loved specific fruit as a kid. Bananas, grapes, and watermelon? Hell yeah. Apples and honeydew? Death glare for suggesting it.

I and my sibling also got fiendish for salad and fresh vegetables but hated frozen.

I’d wager that just like with adults, every kid is different.

[–] Dave@lemmy.nz 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

For sure. One of my kids cites broccoli as a favourite food.

Apple's are meh with my kids but slice them and spread them with peanut butter with some raisins and they love them (a variation of bugs on a log).

[–] helpImTrappedOnline@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

There's variations to bugs on a log?? I always hated when my uncle fed us that.

[–] Bonje@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

Ok, but that actually looks bomb. Gimme.

[–] hark@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

That looks good, but fruit on an empty stomach doesn't generally work well with me.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 3 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

I know those feels. The acids in apple juice used to wreck my stomach. Couldn’t drink it. OJ was iffy. No idea why. Regular fruit was fine, though. Try a self experiment and take a small antacid like tums beforehand and see if it helps?

[–] hark@lemmy.world 0 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

I wouldn't want to rely on antacids since taking those regularly can cause problems. I generally eat something like bread or nuts and then I'm all set to take on fruits. Some fruits are better than others, since I can eat bananas on an empty stomach just fine. Either way it's nothing major, usually mild discomfort if I eat apples on an empty stomach but maybe I'm eating too many or they're too sour or something.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

This is a self experiment to see if it's the acids in the citrus or other fruit causing the stomach upset, not a command to eat a ton of fruit in conditions you know will upset your stomach and fix the issue with popping antacids like candy. If the antacids do not help the problem, then perhaps you'd care to check with an allergist or physician to see if there's a food sensitivity that might be an issue. I have a friend that has a food sensitivity to compounds in apples, onions, and other things, so this would be a quick and cheap way to see if there might be something else going on. IANAD, this is simply a suggestion. Or you can just forego fruit on an empty stomach. Whatever works for you.

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.ml 2 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

But hard to digest fats do? And yeah, can't stomach much more than muesli at morning too.

[–] hark@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

Grains work well for me, but yeah, fats, as long as it's not too much, generally work out better for me than raw fruits and veggies on an empty stomach.

[–] absGeekNZ@lemmy.nz 9 points 1 day ago

I would eat that.

[–] emberinmoss@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 day ago

Heck yes. I would replace the banana with strawberry slices and say it's ketchup or tomato.

[–] Oth@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 day ago

Hell yeah, I would love this now, and probably would've loved it as a kid.

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 day ago

Now bread it and deep fry it all

[–] myster0n@feddit.nl 3 points 1 day ago

Hope she used a McIntosh apple
