Welcome to the News community!
Rules:
1. Be civil
Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.
2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.
Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.
Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

This is beyond horrible, but as I found out has also been going on for decades. Maga didn't do this, but they would have if it wasn't already the policy.
Overhaul immigration, overhaul qualifed immunity for law enforcement, eliminate ICE.
I am sure the Orange Pedo and his buddies are having a blast.
This is a crime against humanity
I understand this is illegal but what are they claiming is the reason they can do this because it’s legal for them?
The ghost of hitler nodes head approvingly…
These judges who are allowing this and not ordering the immediate dismissal of all charges and for the children to be released are monsters.
America’s ethic cleansing of Latinos will continue lawfully forward. These judges should be disqualified from the legal profession altogether, at the very least.
How would one go about finding out who these judges are?
They were on the island with Trump and they will always support him.
On the island or wishing they were. Such scumbags.
This seems like a complex issue, and I don't necessarily think that not having legal representation for half of them is necessarily the biggest problem.
It's just inexcusable that children are taken from their parents in any case.
All of these kids, lawyer or no, are more or less doomed to a life of abuse, exploitation, poverty, and the resultant mental health problems.
Presumably, the acacia centre of justice is conducting a triage and representing the cases they can where there's a chance of achieving a better outcome.
Them having legal representation is literally due process it’s pretty high on the list of problems. There’s plenty of legitimate reasons to remove kids from their parents, plenty of abusive parents out there, so yes in some cases it is excusable. There’s NO excuse for foregoing due process however
is literally due process
Actually I doubt that's true, in a technical sense.
In a criminal court yes having legal representation is due process.
For the types of court matters which are formulaic and don't really require any discretion or consideration, legal representation isn't really considered a basic right because there may not be much scope to influence the outcome.
If it were a requirement in these cases the federal govt would ensure that these kids do have representation simply to ensure that they can not later appeal on the basis that they did not have representation.
If you had $10 to donate, it would be better used to buy them a toothbrush and soap for wherever they get deported to, rather than paying someone to represent their case in court.
That said I'm gravely concerned for these kids mental and physical well being while in custody. I'm sure the detention centres are just awful places to be.
They say the greatness of a civilization can be judged by how it treats its weakest members.
Yeah. I used to be a person who said that "America is great because it is good" and I know that attitude came from a post 9-11 patriotism I thought was real.
But this isn't even trying. We are broken as a society and country.
RIP 🇺🇸
A pretty good rule in general is: "the more somebody claims great things about themselves or about something they control, the less that is true".
A country's politicians harping about how great and good the country they have power over is, should ring enormous alarm bells in one's mind - such qualities are self-evident, so if the people who control the country feel the need to insistently claim that, it means they know that the country falls short of that and words are needed to fill in the perception gap between reality and people thinking the country has such qualities.
That said, it's the kind of thing one only discovers (if at all) with life experience, and I thing most of us started by believing such things, later figured out it's bullshit and even later figured out what kind of symptons to look for to determine if it's all bullshit, so fair enough that you believed it and kudos for, by now, being at least at the stage of having figured out it was all bullshit.
No one is on the fence about the US or China or Russia.
Israel
I almost want there to be a hell. I most likely would end up there for my denial of a greater being. But getting the chance to see these people explain themselves to their creator of how and why they abused kids and separated them before being cast out seems like the only justice these kids will ever receive
Or just some sort of "karma bank" film reel where we get to see them go through some sort of justice? C'mon universe.
