I've never used matrix, but if it's hosted in the same place wouldn't it be down as well?
Oh I thought the main chat was hosted on matrix.org

The old frontend looks to be up, but as the backend API is down it doesn't work. That indicates the servers are still there, even if Lemmy isn't up.
Matrix still works even if the server that originally created the room goes down.
You might have trouble joining the room but people in the room on other servers can still chat without any issues.
I just get a 502 error

Just going to settle in with this alt for now. Whatever, that's the nice part of federation. Pity though, I had to thank somebody for a nice compliment and I can't find it now.
