The unfortunate truth is the MSRP on the can is just that, a suggested retail price. Circle K can rip off their customers all they like because this is America, and there's apparently nothing more sacred than corporate profits.

My local grocery store sells them for 89¢ per can. The gas station in the same parking lot sells them for $2, or two for $3.50.

We're in the timeline where they didn't pass their history test.

And also where, unfortunately, Rufus passed on.

Rip George. He never got laid simply because of his name. He had to work for it. 😞✊

Watch it (and the sequel) if you want some goofy, lighthearted fun. No idea of the recent third movie holds up, but I don't recall hearing anything terrible about it.

Arizona tea came out in 1992 and sold for 99¢ per can. Today that would be $2.32, which means these cans cost around ⅔ as much as they did when they came out.

[–] JcbAzPx@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

99¢ is still MSRP. Though they did change the size of the can a bit so they could use less aluminum without affecting its structural integrity.

In fairness, we’ve ensured wages don’t keep up with inflation either, so it balances out… it’s just probably gradually decreasing in quality over time

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They've probably compensated by only adding 2/3 of the flavoring.

[–] Alexstarfire@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago

They had flavor?

Somehow everyone in this thread talking about the price on the can out of blind habit... ignoring the Circle K logo ON THE CAN.

These are obviously not the standard Arizona cans with the price printed on the label. These are made by Arizona specifically for Circle K so they can do this.

[–] ZeroCool@piefed.ca 14 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Circle K orders custom cans for all Arizona Iced Tea varieties, not just their exclusive flavors. Retailers have no legal obligation to obey the MSRP on the can, and many do ignore it shamelessly. You only need custom cans if you don't want your customers to know just how much they're being overcharged, which is why Circle K does it.

You could get a Thermos and brew up a bunch yourself, just take a chilled drink with you.

Gives you a wider selection and doesn't take long for the Thermos to pay itself back.

I don't usually take iced tea, but I have been known to take a Thermos of ice water.

Meh, only a circle k and rip-off venues. Still .99 at proper stores. Ever seen the vid from the owner? Seems like an awesome dude.

The same thing happens with brisk except it is WAY worse and a lot more common

Should also be 99 cents but gas stations often sell it for well above 2 usd

There's a german pop song about how things we remember seem a lot better than they were. The chorus goes "Arizona ice tea wasn't really that good"

[–] xploit@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

And as low as 45-70 in WinCo sometimes

[–] fyzzlefry@retrolemmy.com 5 points 3 days ago

If I need to buy multiples or have an app to get a discount, I'm passing on it altogether.

[–] HeyJoe@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago

Almost all stores near me are selling them for this same deal. Quickcheck is the one that comes to mind. The funny thing that I found is that the food stores have had almost never ending sales for the cans now marking them at .66 cents a can now. It's now the only place I will buy them. From my understanding Arizona wants the price to be .99 cents but my theory is since stores are now selling them for higher prices they somehow made deals with grocery stores to sell for less so that it evens out or the hope that people do what i do and just buy them for the cheaper price leaving the higher priced ones to sell less.

I'm dropping a dollar on the counter and walking out

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Coke originally sold for a nickle.

In 1992, when Arizona tea came out, that 99¢ then is worth at least $2.32 today. So bear that in mind, yeah?
