Which is why "losing the room" isn't really true. Each MAGA is in their own sound proofed room by themselves.
The older I get, the more it becomes apparent that the primary political distinction between people is how many degrees of separation from themselves they care about people. The more you care about people barely connected to you at all, the more progressive you are. The more your scope of concern for people is limited to people in your immediately sphere, the more conservative you are.
It is not always selfishness that sways conservatives. They can care genuinely and deeply for their family, friends, colleagues, and community. But that is typically as far as that scope of concern goes. They can take on more progressive political positions or make limited exceptions when their lifelong regressive politics suddenly negatively affects themselves or those close to them. Their kid comes out as trans, their work friend is black, their community is being spoiled by a corporation, and suddenly they are a progressive ally on those things alone. But what they care about will still be limited to those in their bubble. They will not care that their politics has the same effect on someone else's family until it happens to their's. It's a genuine character flaw. They are incapable of general altruism.
Unfortunately, that it's such a widespread characteristic means society can only maintain progressive institutions by figuring out a way to protect them from being considered "enemy other" by people like that. There are selfish reasons to support safety nets - treating infectious diseases in poor communities prevents transmission to wealthier communities, for example - but those reasons haven't been sold in a way to gain traction with today's conservatives.
Plus goldfish memory ensures it won't stick
Same old story. Only once they are personally impacted, then they give a shit.
Thats true to varying extents for virtually everyone.
When you're broke and can't afford to take a week off of work because it could mean ending up homeless you're a lot less likely to go spend a lot of time protesting an innocent stranger being shot dead in the street than if that innocent person had been your brother.
Typical conservatives, they don't care about bad things happening to other people but the second it impacts their own lives, now suddenly it's unconscionable.
He rapes children, that's where every "debate" with a trump supporter begins and ends with me lol. Fuck beef prices or foreign policy, trump belongs in a cage where he can no longer hurt children, period.
anyone can be wrong, anyone can be fooled by false promises by sleazy politicians. but the fact that it takes people so long to realize this is bewildering. i mean, it's his second term. what big accomplishments from his first term made him vote for trump again?
Trump hates the same people his voters do?
I think the issue is a lot of my feller Americans are really fucking stupid. And that’s saying a lot coming from a 15 year IV drug user. 6 years sober. But still if I seem to be smarter then most Americans we seriously have an issue wrong with our society. My brain and body are fried.
Give yourself credit, my friend
Most people couldn't even fight the battle you won
Well you see the other person was a woman and they are emotionally unstable. Not like the manly Trump.
Browsing around different forums, I have read some of what they think, and they legitimately believe that he as accomplished a lot by "protecting the culture" and deporting immigrants. But there's a lot of complaining about everything else and general dissatisfaction from what I can tell.
Basically they are racists and they are glad about the racist things he's accomplished.
He's worse than that: Trump doesn't give a damn about anyone who isn't Trump.
Only when it hurt them personally... And then forget when a promise is made to hurt others.
"He doesn't care about ranchers" - yeah, something happened there. He was allllll fine with fuck the immigrants, fuck the brown people, fuck everyone else, but finally Trump did something that hurt his personal little feefees and now he's upset and surprised that Trump would do whatever it was, but he'll get over it and vote for him or whoever he annoints or whoever the Republicans put out there.
Fuck these people. I gave excuses to these fuckers for decades and I'm out of excuses for them. They are traitors to our democracy and voted in fascism time and time again. No sympathy for traitors. They have collectively killed millions of Americans, and at least millions of others around the world if not hundreds of millions by their actions.
The issue is that their empathy, like most people's in history, extends to their immediate circle and no further. Once he became affected, he realized Trump doesnt care. Everything else was a victory in the name of GuyWhoHasntWrongedHimSpecifically because He said so
They only turn when they are personally affected in a big way.
Plenty still haven't felt that yet.
No he'll vote for trump again if he could. Rural people are brain dead
In the name of probably quite a few rural people: fuck you
As a different rural person, you completely miss the point. I agree with them, fuck rural people.
Only took him 10 years to figure it out
Posts like this were popular when Trump lost, but look at where we are now. His supporters will hop right back on again and again.
Cool story bro. I have family in farm country and can drum up a dozen farmers/ranchers right the fuck now who pray before they eat and vociferously defend everything this administration is doing to defend against the libs. By right now I mean RIGHT NOW, AFTER alllllll of the pedo shit and the losing the made up war, tariffs, all of it. Does. Not. Matter.
They either won’t or can’t give up the sunk cost
He's giving the room away because he no longer needs it. He's entrenched and he's got his gestapo.
“until it happens to affect me, i’ll shit on everyone else” - old people
This is easy to fake, but I think it is happening. They're spamming Truth Social with bots to drown out the dissent now. That's not good for them.
It might be more about the dissent rising in the right-wing media ecosystem than people waking up ontheir own, but the dissent in the right-wing media system may be driven by falling viewership, so maybe it's the whole thing collapsing in unison. Last poll I saw had him down to 33% now.
Wont matter a lick if they dont go out and reverse that fucking vote.
I bet that if he watches FOX News for a few hours a day, he'll come back to understanding all his personal hardship is necessary so that Trump can protect him from the libs, the worst of the worst immigrants and, to quote Darlene Graham Nordone, Boys in girls' sports.
Very few people voted for Trump to bring the cost of eggs down. They voted for Trump for permission to do that sweet, sweet racism.
I remember reading a modern Captain America comic set in the WW2 era. The Red Skull, Hitler's top agent, is planning his escape from the inevitable fall of the Nazi regime. The Skull blames Hitler personally, but is still 100% committed to the cause. The Skull has enough gold to live like a king forever, but he's planning on using it to start the next Reich.
s...so he's saying it wasnt worth getting poor and broken just to pown the dems? like maybe his best interests in his vote were a little off?
