they redid all the assetes (it's not just a simple upscale), has all the orginal DLC. Not just Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine, but also all the smaller home dlc too.

they're also not spammed the second you leave the tutorial. and are a part of the world now, and NPCs have rumors discussing them

They also gifted the game to everyone working on Skyblivion instead of sending them a C&D like Nintendo did to the people who worked on AM2R

-$80 is a good deal tho?

[–] absurdity_of_it_all@lemmy.ml 22 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

I don't think some games costing $80 makes $50 for a 20 yr old game any less atrocious. Plus, they added new asdons just to increase that more. So even calling it a $50 game is incorrect. Bethesda/Microsoft is still a shit company. Nothing has changed.

All I'm seeing is how easily people get used to being scammed because there are so many youtubers and influencers play the role of manufacturing consent by calling it a "good deal".

And do not bring in developers getting paid enough. The issue is never the price for something this high selling. It's always the hierarchy and wealth distribution in the company. Even if the game cost $100 those people aren't gonna see much of it. A $20 game when so many people (in the hundreds of thousands or even millions) buy it can still pay the developers enough if they were actually paid their share.

Like I bought vintage story (a indie game) for only 20$ and thats basically one of the most complex survival games made by a small team. Hell even starsector was cheap and that is made by two people.

extremely ambitious indie game that does something complex and unique: $10-$20
formulaic AAA slop that is barely different from the last one: $60-$80

Omg unrelated but I just saw your none/use name tag and felt so nice. I do prefer that too but I haven't seen that with other people much.

[–] Lemister@hexbear.net 5 points 12 hours ago

Oh no I am cis, I just prefer that people not have any perceived notions when they reply to me! But I am glad you like it.

I have no idea why people are so pumped up over this, it's a 20 year old mediocre game re-released with better graphics. Oblivion wasn't even that amazing when it first came out.

Americans love slop so fucking much

[–] doublepepperoni@hexbear.net 8 points 13 hours ago

There's not too many immersive open-world RPGs around

[–] TheVelvetGentleman@hexbear.net 5 points 14 hours ago

It's a decent enough game with a lot of nostalgia attached to it. It looks nice, and it's free. What's not to get?

Hexbear being obsessed with the quality of this remaster was not on my 2025 bingo card. Nor was the idea that anyone here would actually argue that AAA video game pricing was 'the forefront of practical'.

Be gay, do piracy.

[–] Hestia@hexbear.net 16 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

The remaster is what's getting me back into pirating. (I'm a broke removed but I do love me treats)

[–] SkingradGuard@hexbear.net 9 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago)

But it doesn't include all dlc because they included new ones. This is why you should pirate everything that is media

[–] FortifiedAttack@hexbear.net 19 points 19 hours ago

Yeah but you can get the original Oblivion for $15 or $5 on sale, and other than graphics (that make most people's machines chug) you're not really missing out on much.

Pretty sure the Yakuza Remastered collection was $50 for three games originally and now can of course be bought for much less. Sega proven superior once again kiryu-approaching

I wouldn't take Oblivion if they paid me.

Also if this is all we fucking talk about on this comm it's gonna get blocked like what is this "my treats to expensive" shit over and over again

[–] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 29 points 1 day ago (3 children)

They also gifted the game to everyone working on Skyblivion

That seems more like gloating than kindness

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 15 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

or bait trying to get them to abandon it.

big ups if skyblivion comes with any of the new assets

[–] jackmaoist@hexbear.net 18 points 19 hours ago

It's launching this year and is pretty much complete. It's too late to abandon it.

Keep in mind that Skyblivion is a remake while this is a remaster and they will be very different games to play eventhough the story would be the same.

[–] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 2 points 13 hours ago

They would have to require people to own the remaster to play it in order to not get sued into oblivion (hah), and even then it might be iffy for the same reason Fallout 4 New Vegas isn't allowed to use the original's voice work

[–] ksynwa@lemmygrad.ml 12 points 21 hours ago

You get down on your knees and thank milord for his generous offering of crumbs right now

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 13 points 1 day ago

I'd just license it and fucking pay them

Fitgirl release is imminent if not active already

resist the urge to buy skybilvon for the 1000th time, resist todd howard

[–] keepcarrot@hexbear.net 14 points 18 hours ago

I'm largely baffled by people buying it. Like, this strategy of selling people largely the same thing works???

meow-tableflip I am begging gamers not to call the corporate crumbs m'lords generosity. Just because Nintendo is the greater evil doesn't absolve other corporations of their own shit.

[–] Le_Wokisme@hexbear.net 8 points 20 hours ago

the middle thing is actually a good change but only because the other way of doing dlc was bad
