Every time there is a new game coming out. I go into Social media and what I see is "this game is woke because two dudes are kissing and there is a black protagonists, delete and refund" There are so many people that seem to care about it that I start to wonder if I am the insane one?

like Do these people genuinely believe that artists will stop being political and talk about their beliefs just because you said you don't like it? or that games will stop being "woke" because like, 3 games flopped for reasons OTHER THAN it was "woke"

Let's ignore the story quality, graphical fidelity, optimization, gameplay quality, etc.. Oh, no! The only reason why this succeeded is because that character has a fat ass! The reason for why that game has failed is because this character said they were non-binary!

like, Just how are people are not tired of this shit? This debate is about as deep as a puddle, has no consequence on real life, and the roots of this debate is based on ignorance and assumptions.

Hell, I got told that the Oblivion remaster was great and "not woke" because it sold more on Steam than AC Shadows Shadows and Dragon Age Veilguard

But also that Oblivion is "woke" for removing male and female and replacing it with Body Type 1/2

In the same reddit thread

Oblivion was The first AAA game to have microtransactions and now Oblivion Remastered could possibly be the last AAA game to be priced at $50-60 dollars.

with the Switch 2 being a success, we could see a rise in prices for all AAA Games. to 80-90 dollars

WHEN games do inevitably become 80-100 dollars, I'll definitely be buying more Indie games

for me, it would be Nintendo... In General

any time people are critical of something Nintendo-related it gets treated as a widespread boycott.

That way when the supposed "boycott" is inevitably unsuccessful, Nintendo devotees can sarcastically go "Another successful boycott, right??"

Has happened with every Pokemon release on the Switch since Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee

As someone who also enjoys Nintendo stuff, I find it pretty difficult to criticize Nintendo without a bunch of fans getting really defensive about it.

Like with this recent Switch 2 "boycott" narrative

there isn't a boycott, it's just simply people reacting to market conditions and overall economic conditions.

Wages haven't met with inflation, games are getting expensive, times are hard right now with layoffs and a bad stock market. Prices for goods across the board are going up. Is it any wonder that people are just going to continue playing what they have or buy a cheaper (and maybe more powerful) alternative instead of being early adopters for a new console and 70-90 dollar games?

they redid all the assetes (it's not just a simple upscale), has all the orginal DLC. Not just Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine, but also all the smaller home dlc too.

they're also not spammed the second you leave the tutorial. and are a part of the world now, and NPCs have rumors discussing them

They also gifted the game to everyone working on Skyblivion instead of sending them a C&D like Nintendo did to the people who worked on AM2R

some of these are taken directly from the "woke content detector" list

Undertale- "Contains overtly pro-LGBTQ+ messaging. Multiple non-binary characters that use they/them pronouns, including the player character. Two major characters can form a homosexual relationship."

Hollow Knight- "Contains subtly pro-LGBTQ+ messaging. The npc Cloth is revealed to be a lesbian. An achievement called Happy Couple involves the nailsmith becoming a male model for the npc Sheo."

Celeste- Trans Protaginast

Cassette Beasts: fawking PRONOUNS and all companions can be romanced regardless of gender

Ultrakill: "Contains overtly pro-LGBTQ+ messaging. The word 'gay' is spelled out by three mannequins posing in flag symbols. Level 5-S contains a reference to the Blåhaj plushie, a pro-trans symbol"

Sorry We're Closed: : "Contains overtly pro-LGBTQ+ messaging. Features multiple LGBTQ+ characters including the player character. Features multiple non-binary characters that use they/them pronouns"

Fraymakers: "Contains overtly pro-LGBTQ+ messaging. Features multiple non-binary characters that use they/them pronouns."

a lot of Indie games are "woke" in some way

if Body Type 1/2 is where you draw the line, then Elder Scrolls probably isn’t the game series for you. LGBT characters are very common in this series

bigots get more triggered at customization than the "liberal snowflakes" they constantly cry about.

like, the only gripe I have with the customization is that there's no customizable genitals

then again, Veilguard and Avowed didn't have those either

They’ve got pockets up the ass and the HIGHEST SELLING IP IN THE WORLD, and they use it to cosplay as an indie dev team to release games with so many bugs Bethesda would get jealous and now they want a monopoly on a genre they didn’t even invent in the first place.

(MegaTen came out in 1987, nearly a decade before Pokemon Red and Blue came out)

how Sparking Zero is being handled after release should be a study of how hard a company can fumble a game

  • no new maps

  • no outfits

  • no new costumes

  • no color/outfit customization

  • no new Single Player content or new DLC Story packs

-8 characters with 4 of them being Vegeta and 1 of them not even being a fighter (I haven't watched Daima so, I'm not too sure if Pansy fights anyone)

  • 1 outfit change that isn’t even a outfit change, just a moveset change

Spike Chunsoft/Bamco gotta realize that maps, outfits, character customization and Single Player content is what’s lacking not characters.

Marathon will inevitably attract a lot of legitimate criticism, possibly fail outright, and you will have another situation were discussions will be polluted by people blaming all game's wrongs on WOKE.

especially since the bigots decided to hate on it for having "unattractive female characters" even though they literally JUST COMPLAINED about how Emma Frost in Marvel Rivals looks like a "200lb man post surgery in drag" even though she has Jiggle physics and a skin that 's about as revealing as one can get without upping the game's age rating (AKA literally EVERYTHING they want)

do they think that we have the memory of a goldfish or something?

the Yo-Kai Watch series from Level 5 got written off by so many gamers - especially in the West - as just another "Pokémon ripoff," when in reality, it's one of the most charming, funny, and uniquely creative RPG franchises out there.

i mean yeah, it’s easy to assume Yo-Kai Watch was designed to ride Pokémon's coattails. You’ve got a young kid, they befriend supernatural creatures, those creatures help them solve problems or fight other creatures. It even launched with toys and an anime, like Pokémon. But this shitty surface comparison misses the heart of what makes Yo-Kai Watch special; and anyway, if you want to cite superficial, genre-based similarities as a sufficient reason to not try a game out, you could probably apply that same wobbly logic to many other beloved franchises

when Nintendo brought Yo-Kai Watch to the West, the timing couldn’t have been worse. The first game launched on 3DS in 2015 — right at the tail end of the system’s golden age and just before the Pokémon franchise hit full mainstream saturation again with Sun & Moon and Pokémon Go.

Combine that with a localization that struggled to translate the very Japan-specific charm and humor, and the game was basically fucking sent to die overseas. Didn't help that Hasbro bungled the toyline by failing to communicate which stores the collectible medals were being shipped to and when, making finding them a crapshoot for collectors.

It ALSO didn't help that marketing leaned so heavily into the "it's the next Pokémon!" narrative, which raised expectations to impossible heights (and also made Pokemon fans defensive and avoidant of the series on principle). People wanted battles with deep strategy and tournament-ready meta, but Yo-Kai Watch was always more about vibe, humor, and light social satire.

Yo-Kai Watch deserves a second chance, especially with the rise of "Pokemon-likes" like Cassette Beasts, Dokimon, Dragon Quest Monsters, SMT/Persona, Monster Hunter Stories 2 and Palworld

Pocket Bravery (just came out on all consoles)

Rivals of Aether II

Under Night In-Birth II

Iron Saga VS

Granblue Fantasy Versus Rising

And NONE of them have recently been bombarded with balance issues, lack of new content, or the use of real-life celebrities taking the slots of original characters.

Between Battlefront 3 getting cancelled near the finish line, DICE abandoning BFII in favor of Battlefield 2042 (a misfire, to say the least), the Battlefront Collection launching in a piss poor state, and now the PC servers getting hacked (who knows if the same will happen on console), Battlefront is a truly cursed series.

The only positive is that EA no longer has exclusivity over Star Wars. which means Disney could have someone who actually cares make a BF3/spiritual successor.

after all, they'd probably want to emulate the success of Marvel Rivals with Star Wars
