Walpole had described Mr Loader as being antagonistic towards her throughout the night, trying to wrestle her and wake her sleeping boyfriend.
"I was feeling overwhelmed by [Mr Loader's] presence and I didn't know what to do," she told the court.
Her anger then flared when Mr Loader told her she should stay in the kitchen making scones where she belonged, and not to go drinking with boys.
She left the table where they were drinking to collect a five-litre container of petrol from her garage, and poured it on Mr Loader before waving around her lighter.
Mr Loader said, "Go on, do it," before Walpole set him on fire.
Fuck around and find out tbh
Me then: wow that sounds intense she seems pretty fucked up
Me now:
It's pretty wild. Slight overreaction maybe but drugs and emotion and alcohol and this mother fucking asshole just asking for it makes it pretty sympathetic.
Need an emoji for this one, all we have is
"I survived because the misogyny inside me burned brighter than the fire around me."
god forbid a woman has hobbies
told her she should stay in the kitchen making scones where she belonged, and not to go drinking with boys.
...
[She got a] five-litre container of petrol from her garage, and poured it on Mr Loader before waving around her lighter.

I won't condone it but I'm not going to outright condemn it either
What are you gunna' do, torch me?
-man who was torched
Mr Loader said, "Go on, do it," before Walpole set him on fire.
Mr Loaded watched too many movies
He literally said do it after harassing her all night
You know what? Good on her. Not an overreaction to me. Sounds to me like Loader is the kind of fuckwit says misogynistic, and probably racist shit "as a joke" then tries to take it all back. I'm glad she checked his ass in the worst way possible.
Crown prosecutor Max Pincott said Walpole had plenty of time to calm down.
"You could have walked away from this, couldn't you, but you didn't," he said.
Prosecutor basically saying "well, why didn't you just get back in the kitchen like the misogynist piece of shit asked you to?"
Understandable, but probably a slight overreaction.
I think not setting men on fire is an act of great restraint by women.
I do tend to agree. But I also feel like there's too much we don't know. This guy didn't get a little loaded and suddenly become a prick and she suddenly escalated to having her own personal burning man. They've known each other for years, apparently. This couldn't have been an isolated incident. To me it feels like this was just the proverbial straw. A little liquid courage and marching powder, and we get a crispy Mr Louder.
That all said, I don't actually think this was an appropriate response still. But important to acknowledge what we don't know. Obviously she could just not be friends with the guy, probably.
Yeah I'm going to say this is too much? I could totally see a nice open palm slap to the face or better yet a punch, but setting someone on fire, idk.
I'd mostly agree, but it sounds like the dude just sat there while she poured fuel on him, and when she made the threatening gesture, decided in was in everyone's best interest to continue egging her on. I feel like I would have been fleeing when she started trying to pour the fuel. Or I just wouldn't make a misogynistic comment, but whatever I guess.
I can imagine exactly what kind of slimey superiority complex dude would just sit there and act like he's fucking invincible to the pathetic woman who should be in the kitchen. Just barely reacting or scoffing like it's all something beneath him until he's literally on fucking fire.
I think this pretty clearly falls under "Fighting Words" legality. He insulted her honor, they fought in a battle of wills, he lost.
