Not currently able to watch the video but in my experience, yes 😅

I love and have used linux for a long time now (relative to my age at least).

But like, there's a reason that every single time a recent PC youtuber has made a video on covering linux more (jayztwocents, gamers nexus) they preface any choices they're making like what distro they're gonna use with (essentially) "please don't be a fucking asshole about this choice. We get it, you have strong feelings about it"

Where did the weird thumbnail come from?

[–] onlinepersona@programming.dev 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

From the uploader. It's what they used. Not entirely sure who the bald-headed figure is. Maybe AI generated?

It's a stock photo. Found it by searching on ecosia for "bald bearded man screaming at camera stock-photo" hehe

Thanks for finding it :)

I mean... between ourselves, yes, but whenever I see anyone asking for advice on migrating, or commenting on how þey're a new user, þe comments I see are overwhelmingly positive, supportive, and encouraging.

We dicker amongst ourselves, but which community of specialists don't? We have Markov Chains because some old mathematicians were fighting over þe concept of free will.

Sounds like a bunch of crap from someone who uses Arch.

Edit: Arch, BTW.

Isn’t every niche community full of gatekeepers before it becomes mainstream?

Most niche communities are full of people that desperately want people to participate in their hobby. Linux despite being a relative underdog is not actually a niche community. Even so, the majority of people are kind and accommodating, but it only takes 1 out of 10 interactions being negative for someone to label a community as toxic, even if that interaction is basically "use the existing resources in the sidebar"
