Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. The mayor of Vorst, Belgium, has officially banned an upcoming Disturbed concert, citing public safety concerns stemming from frontman David Draiman’s outspoken support for the Israeli army – namely that one picture where he's signing missiles that'll kill people shortly thereafter.

Disturbed was scheduled to play Vorst Nationaal on Wednesday, October 15, but the plug has now been pulled following a police order issued by Mayor Charles Spapens (PS) according to De Standaard.

My hatred for them since high school is now validated.

I'll torrent it, won't stream it even on pirated YouTube (still counts as views)

[–] Damage@feddit.it 6 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

I've been so fucking lucky in my music choice so far. Iced Earth was a real close miss, it's my favorite genre but I never got into them.

It turns out, he was down with the sickness all along

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world 9 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

It also turns out they must think "The Guy" is actually the bad guy.

I'm disappointed to learn of his support for genocide.

[–] jumperalex@lemmy.world 69 points 4 weeks ago (3 children)

Would you go so far as to say you were disturbed when you learned of his support for genocide?

Even if I didn't know the context, someone signing an instrument of war and killing is just weird. To put it mildly.

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 35 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago) (1 children)

It wasn't when we dropped bombs during WWII.

And during the Gulf War

[–] sin_free_for_00_days@sopuli.xyz 37 points 4 weeks ago (1 children)

If those hit the people they were addressing, sure. But in reality, both those bombs, if they actually hit someone, probably killed poor schmucks just trying to make their way through life.

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 16 points 4 weeks ago* (last edited 4 weeks ago)

Duh lol. It was the keyboard warrior position that had planes and bombs to back it up. And a morale booster, reminder of why you're dropping them.

Writing on a bomb that's about to blow up innocent civilians during a genocide is absolutely weird though.

Another Kanye.

Why I never invest in celebrities because at anytime they can make a heel turn.

[–] thermal_shock@lemmy.world 11 points 4 weeks ago (3 children)

I have all Chris browns songs shared, but they whisper "Fuck Chris Brown" over the song LMAO. Maybe I'll do the same here. Get hundreds of thousands of copies out there.

The guy defended himself by saying he wrote "fuck Hamas" on it. Is he really that delusional? Anyways removed all their songs from my lists and blocked them.

Oh ducking hell no. Are you serious? God damn. Oofta ouch. Just wow. Damnit.

[–] Bosht@lemmy.world 24 points 3 weeks ago (7 children)

Even if he wasn't pro genocide, which is obviously revolting enough, the act of signing any missile or something meant to kill / maim is cringe as fuck anyway. Why even pursue doing that at all?? There's so many ways to promote your brand/label/views without literally signing something used directly to cause death. Whole thing is fucking stupid and gross.

It's like if Rage Against the Machine were actually very much on the side of the machine.

[–] altkey@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 4 weeks ago

Their old Deify song is very on point now. Dude could've became the voice of despise about the current admin, but instead he got one (1.0, single, singular, SOLE, O N L Y) strong political opinion and it is that one. What the fuck.

[–] rollerbang@lemmy.world 19 points 4 weeks ago

I mean... At least thanks for letting us know, Mr Draiman.

[–] spacemanspiffy@lemmy.world 17 points 4 weeks ago

Good thing they already sucked, but this is abysmally low.

[–] mrdown@lemmy.world 16 points 4 weeks ago

The Zionist religion ritual

[–] MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca 10 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Dude has always been an edgelord in some capacity. He probably thought it would be edgey to sign a bomb, regardless of who made it and who it would kill.

Though, I have zero doubts that David also has some questionable viewpoints on that stuff as well. I'm not aware of any, but I also haven't really heard anything from that band since the late 90s/early 2000s.

Good job getting cancelled buddy. Enjoy obscurity.

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 14 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

He's a hardcore Zionist who is openly outspoken in favor of Israel so this is more than just a bit of edge.

Looks like theyre happy that Israel is giving Gaza another way to die.

[–] altkey@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 4 weeks ago

Dude's to be immortalized as the second Anselmo. I'm pissed at these dudes.

[–] rising_man@lemmy.world 7 points 3 weeks ago

Well, that's disturbing...

[–] MeatPilot@lemmy.world 7 points 4 weeks ago

Ooooo wahahahah whatever removed. Fuck him.

[–] arsCynic@lemmy.ml 7 points 3 weeks ago

Disturbed makes boring-ass mediocre metal anyway; his vocals are so dull. Good riddance.

[–] Tigeroovy@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 weeks ago

Is this the sickness they talked about being down with?

[–] Railcar8095@lemmy.world 6 points 4 weeks ago

Some months (years?) ago there was a disturbed meme and people were saying he would love it, that's he's such a funny and all around great guy.

Now it seems lot of people knew he was a fascist all along.
