i'm doing my part

Here's a simple solution.

1 - Open a second account on another lemmy instance, anyone will do. Maybe do it on Piefed so you can test some extra functionality.

2 - Start blocking anything related to politic and world news and relax. This is just your cozy second account, you have the right to chose your content. On Piefed you can even block post with specific keyword like "Trump".

3 - Navigate in the community session and search through hundreds of non-political one; Hobbies, books, tv series, anime, movie, ecc. You can also use this lemmy explorer site : https://lemmyverse.net/

This is a great idea!

Great suggestion !

About that, the "Communities" page on Piefed has a counter of weekly active users, so you can use that to find active communities. There are also feeds on https://piefed.social/feeds that can help find communities on a specific topic, and can be subscribed from other instances

I wish there was a client that you could easily create and toggle block lists. So you can have a politic block list but enable or disable whatever you feel like.

[–] Fmstrat@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

I do this with subscriptions. All for daytime browsing, Subscriptions for night.

I mean, yeah... what did you expect? Lemmy is composed of a lot of groups, but let's not pretend that the 'average' person is here. We're a bunch of wallflowers, nerds, introverts, tech enthusiasts, etc.... Groups that typically dismiss small talk and want to dive into deep discussions of hobbies.

One of our hobbies is commiserating on one of the things that brought us here: the rise of fascism in america that has brought with it an extreme polarization of corporate controlled media. It feels good to know you're not alone, especially when 'real life' conversations will drive you up a wall of purposeful ignorance masquerading as an elite snobbery of being too good for politics or a common man meme of not thinking that politics is useful or influential of one's life.

Plus, going back to the first point, emotions are tightly controlled during the day. The little bursts of anger, rage, fury, and pity that the political articles certainly release right now are going to be much more stimulating (and a controlled stimulation at that, which we love) than (just looking at that piefed feed...) answering a direct question at me about rice in a burrito... or the rather insipid (and sounding like something you'd see at some corporate controlled space so everyone can feel oooh, coooooozy) ones about going on holiday.... writing poetry... how's my week going... what's made me smile or laugh recently...

About the only two posts there that even seem interesting are the star trek / alien crossover, and the one seeing a social media addict. And interesting is what brings people in.

I think OP's joke went over your head

I wanna be angry. Let me be angry.

[–] Kenny2999@lemmy.world 21 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Anger only hurts one's self. Why not simply enjoy life in all its glorious beauty, be merry, be mindful and fuck the system.

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago
[–] cRazi_man 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Being angry by yourself..... Sure, you do you.

Angry comments directed at other......whoa there.

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

"Leave every situation better than you found it". Read these words in college and never forgot them. Be a net positive in your world. Spread goodness. 💖

Edit: my being angry is a useful (usually destructive) emotion. It's a call to action for me. Makes me want to do something to affect positive change. But sometimes just feeling angry is good for me. Makes me feel like I care. I would be worried if I wasn't emotionally moved. This is just me.

[–] FridaySteve@lemmy.world -2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Imagine needing to be angry about something in order to be motivated to change it.

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

When you think about how evolution maintained anger (or led to its development) you can start to understand what anger can motivate. Anger is a spectrum from annoyance to losing your shit. A certain amount is helpful. Flipping out helps no one.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

There's rare occasions that merit a good flip out. Even Jesus flipped out that one time.

[–] PancakesCantKillMe@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It’s how I lost 30lbs. It finally motivated me.

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Congrats on the 30lbs lost! 💖 You and me both. A healthy amount of anger can go a long way. I'm trying to get back on my grind right now and the frustrated anger is keeping me in the gym regularly (kinda)

Thank you friend, and congrats to you too! Yes, the anger triggered some self-reflection. “Nobody is going to make you lose weight or work out. You need to do this yourself!” Understanding and owning the responsibility of being your own advocate with regards to one’s health is important. It sounds obvious, but many shirk this responsibility. Though I don’t want to generalize too much, we all have our battles.

I did lose about 50lbs, but there’s always a bounce back when you try and normalize your diet and lifestyle. Nothing to be surprised at. Shedding 10 off would be better for me right now, so I suppose I need to get angry again! Just in time for the holidays! 😳

[–] umbrella@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 week ago

i do both. but yeah we gotta nurture the hobby comms beyond just linux.

[–] RizzRustbolt@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The real galaxy brains have casual conversation in the political threads.

[–] Saltycracker@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

This is the way

[–] supersquirrel@sopuli.xyz 8 points 1 week ago

As a martian it is easier to appear human and blend in by discussing politics while I prepare the invasion conditions for earthlings to have their brains harvested. Not sure why everyone else does though.

[–] HazardousBanjo@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

In fairness, one of the primary reasons people jump into the fediverse is because of political censorship, gov surveillance and late stage capitalism ruining all other alternatives.

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Alongside with Reddit's APIpocalypse, Reddit also started to crack down on openly leftist subreddits, which intensified after the new Trump regime.

[–] HazardousBanjo@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

And anti-zionist subreddits, posts and users in general too.

[–] ThatGuyNamedZeus@feddit.org 6 points 1 week ago

I wish it wasn't like that

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

That applies to the entire social media spectrum

[–] Xanthrax@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

I went to check it out, and it's all migrated/ outdated/ UK. Which instance are you talking about?

Edit: My bad i didn't read the text.

Oh gosh, my political mindset is so malleable and just aching to be influenced :3

If only some very smart lemming would remind me how to think, preferably through the format of dank memes :3

I wouldn't even notice how the funnies would slowly move my internal political compass, inching society ever closer to utopian revolution :3

yeah i'm guilty of it myself, i just posted politics article this morning, unfortunately. i guess i shouldn't have done it.
