Do you think the reindeer will start feeding on the Arctic penguins

[–] Fetus@lemmy.world 6 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Antarctic penguins.

And yes.

[–] Karmmah@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago

They'll probably at least try since they see bigger chances to win compared to the polar bears that they had to face previously

I hear Finland has pretty good views of the Northern Lights. Or Canada, since one of his mailing addresses is there.

[–] _deleted_@aussie.zone 2 points 6 months ago

He will live on in our memories and in our hearts.

[–] robocall@lemmy.world 2 points 6 months ago (2 children)

I hate the whole idea of Santa

[–] DeathByBigSad@sh.itjust.works 15 points 6 months ago (2 children)

I actually think it's a great way to teach kids why religions are lies lol

Also make you start doubting every authority figure

At least that's the case for me.

[–] Broadfern@lemmy.world 8 points 6 months ago

This is such a punk rock take and I love it.

[–] massive_bereavement@fedia.io 2 points 6 months ago

You can't surely be comparing Santa Claus to our Lord and Savior, one is a magical figure that judges us by seeing everything we do and promises reward or retribution.

To be honest I'm not super comfortable with it either. It's something I grew up with but in hindsight it doesn't really make any sense to me.

[–] mnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.works 2 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Alternatively, we could stop lying to our kids from a young age. When you think about it, it's just normalizing the act of lying, which is kinda fucked up

[–] JusticeForPorygon@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 6 months ago (1 children)

Honestly I never even thought about the lying aspect, I grew to dislike the concept since it's teaching kids that an old man is spying on them all the time.

[–] mnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.works 1 points 6 months ago

True, but you get the same thing with religion. And unfortunately it conditions people to be comfortable with mass surveillance

[–] nesc@lemmy.cafe -4 points 6 months ago

They probably won't be gone completely and it will take thousands of years, so for a while every version of Santa is good.
