Is this a meme from when JPEG was new and a 56k modem was considered blazingly fast?

[–] kautau@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Unfortunately in the universe where this was created Lempel and Ziv never existed and so lossless compression never really took off. If it did they (and other computer scientists) might have their own logos here too

It's certainly not modern. Those designs are in like a 90s or maybe 2000s style. It isn't the minimalist style of today.

As is typical, Watson and Crick forgot to give Rosalind Franklin any credit, in the logo.

I mean, they definitely had logos. But what about pathos?

You mean "feibniz"? (I will never not see that character as a lowercase "f")

[–] vivendi@programming.dev 5 points 1 month ago

It's an S for Summation

It should be a D though, because it fucks students

[–] toy_boat_toy_boat@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

to me, this looks more like how they'd stylize their own names while doodling in their trapper keepers

Who is the third one down in the first column?

[–] Gobbel2000@programming.dev 8 points 1 month ago

Democritus, famous for founding the idea of Atomism in Ancient Greece.

That's not who he asked for.

Third down in first column is the one written in Greek.

[–] almpeter@feddit.org 2 points 1 month ago

It reads "demokritos". I'll leave it to someone else to link to his wiki page, since i am on my phone and can't handle it...

Where's my man Maxwell at?
Also - should he get his own, or be placed along with Faraday, like Crick & Watson.

[–] Akasazh@lemmy.world 0 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I assume yours would be lame as most of these are?

[–] NichEherVielleicht@feddit.org 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

It's called 'That's annoying'.

[–] almpeter@feddit.org 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Ich hab "nervt das" gelesen, bevor ich deinen titel las... man liest also das schwarze "nervt" zuletzt. Interessant!

[–] NichEherVielleicht@feddit.org 1 points 1 month ago

Das überlasse ich dem Leser...
