Trying to get into federated video content with PeerTube but having some trouble with discovering content. You guys have any favorite instances where you get most of your content from and stuff?

Edit: also feel free to share any channels you think are pretty good, like gaming or art and stuff

To be honest, it's quite distributed for me, in the sense that I'm often just subscribed to a single person for a given instance. I have multiple subscriptions for these instances, though:

I'll check these out!

Is it just me, or is Peertube a lot less federated than it's supposed to be? I feel like most of the content ought to be available from most any instance, like it is on Lemmy, but it doesn't seem to work like that.

From what I've been able to see, instances have to follow another instance for that instance's content to be shown on the follower's instance.

As someone already said, your instance has to follow other instances in order to feature their content on its home page, but you can still follow any remote account regardless of that by typing 'user@instance' on the search bar of your local instance, or by using the remote subscribe feature when browsing channels on other instance.

Devs aldo provide a search engine at https://sepiasearch.org/

Huh, I thought that was already in the app lol

The built-in search won't find non-local content, that's why sepia is a thing.

Yes it does. Instance admins can enable the sepiasearch index for the built-in search.

Just tried it out and this is absolute cinema. Got 1500 results for Minecraft.

Not an instance per se, but Grayjay's home tab ends up being a great discovering place, specially as you add more instances as plugins. Only problem is that it has a tendency of pulling older videos, though for that too, more instances added should help.

And one channel I recommend, though releases are sporadic, is !veronicaexplains@tinkerbetter.tube

I added a bunch on here: https://piefed.social/f/fediversevideos

If your on piefed, the feed has a ton of curated channels and communities across the fediverse that have interesting content. Your free to make your own as well!

I subscribe directly and then if I think the community (here) could potentially like it, I post.

My favourite instance is peertube.wtf. As far as I can tell, it's the most federated instance, so you can get to the most other Peertube content from it! Also it's just funny that "wtf" is its URL! For channels, I like Triple Iris , Vex0r, and Slope's Game Room

If you have an account in any PT instance you can search the user you want to follow. If it's not in the same instance you just have to add it after an @.
