Any experience with using Libreboot? I guess most devices do not support it, besides the ones listed at their website, which are older models.

Secure-boot and modern motherboards with TPM https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trusted_Platform_Module will not support it by design, or is that theoretically possible?

Extropic is building an entirely new type of computing hardware that is designed from the ground up to be incredibly energy efficient at running generative AI models. We call our new type of hardware the thermodynamic sampling unit, or TSU.

Around the 1930s and 1940s, Arthur Imhausen developed and implemented an industrial process in Germany for producing edible fats by oxidizing synthetic paraffin wax made from coal.

The entire purpose of email was to be decentral system. If only gmail and yahoo mails are allowed this company does not understand email.

I checked out the second link, very cool stats. 540 TB Of video files 🤯

How can one estimate the costs of such a massive storage system?

The funny thing: Afaik the LLMs are terrible at chess vs purpose trained chess AI - like Stockfish. https://dynomight.net/more-chess/

Often suggests illegal chess moves.

You are a chess grandmaster. You will be given a partially completed game. After seeing it, you should choose the next move. Use standard algebraic notation, e.g. "e4" or "Rdf8" or "R1a3". NEVER give a turn number. NEVER explain your choice.

with the phrase "do not be evil" they recognize two things:

  1. The responsibility that comes with power new technology brings
  2. The possibility that this tech could become or used for evil.

Should; Could; How high of a priority is this update automation for you? This is also how I run my server. Configuration possibilities are infinite.

Let the AIs play games against each other. The resulting leader board is more precise than benchmarks?

Why are the US and China the only countries to produce LLMs? Afaik french models use American cloud infrastructure and hardware to train their models. Could it be that a certain capital market structure, huge venture capital with deep government ties,is needed to get these giant expensive projects to happen?

This not depicting a traditional ghost makes it 1000x scarier. + the deteriorated but brutal facade. Pripyat; close to Chernobyl I think. So its radioactive there.

up to now I install all my updates manually, maybe I should look into this: how to auto-update.

lol. Same issue for me. I run it for months, and surprisingly (for me) nothing breaks at all.

But fucking ssh shows warnings regarding some "post quantum crypto" stuff; recommending software update, that was not there before lol.

I agree; the best option is to ditch Android ... those who can do it. Some Banking apps, public transport ticket apps, and post/mail-delivery apps seem to be a hard requirement for people in real live though. Which leads to the question: But what about people who can not ditch their phones and can not afford multiple devices (this decade)? Maybe laws that introduce a hard requirement that everything should work through a (open source) web-browser can help, but then what about "offline" use cases?

It feels like we are building our own digital prison in real time.

I have bad experience with self-hosting termux server on a Samsung-Android device. The background process would be terminated after one week of hands off runtime. I tried to rectify this in the power-saving settings to no avail. Still this is really cool:

Your server works for me, it displays:

Battery: 63% DISCHARGING

Temp: 12°C

Or asked the other way around: How long do you keep your servers running without installing any software updates?

update means something like

sudo dnf update

or something ....

apt-get upgrade
apt-get update

Why is it not called side-loading on PC/ Linux PCs?

If you try to find a similar app on the google play store you get apps that do this, but riddle you with data collection prompts. "Free Trial Subscriptions" and "19$ Lifetime purchase ads"

Keep Android Open

In August 2025, Google announced that starting next year, it will no longer be possible to develop apps for the Android platform without first registering centrally with Google.

This registration will involve:

  • Paying a fee to Google
  • Agreeing to Google’s Terms and Conditions
  • Providing government identification
  • Uploading evidence of an app’s private signing key
  • Listing all current and future application identifiers

Sign the open letter. And get active to help oppose the enactment of the policy in other ways listed on the website. Are there any more ways to oppose this?
