I was thinking along the same lines. The table just got TEN FEET LONGER!

Didn't Lemmy already get tags for better visibility on Mastodon and other Fediverse platforms? We'd just need a way to filter or group communities by the tag and we'd be 2/3 of the way there.

Well my bar is anyone making a legitimate effort at keeping their dollars in Canada counts. Reading the labels, looking for alternatives, reviewing subscriptions and travel plans etc. is all good effort that makes a material difference, even if there's often no ideal option or good alternative to a crucial product.

The Trump people in my family seem to be in a wait-and-see type of mood with respect to current events. Probably best for their sanity to stay ignorant than face the cognitive dissonance, though I will occasionally poke fun (with remarks like "Trump is lowering tax bills of ordinary Americans, since their incomes are going down!").

I look forward to banding together against the bully in the White House.

I have to give Trump and Musk props for that, showing the rest of the world how much a right-wing populist fascist government can turn their country into a clown-show.

According to a new study by the Angus Reid Institute, 76% of Canadians say they’re boycotting American products.

61% of Canadians also say they’re cancelling or delaying trips to the U.S., while 86% say they’re buying more Canadian products.

“The cross-border data already proves it: Canadians are cutting back their travel to the U.S. to levels last seen during COVID-19. These numbers may drop further, considering that 3 in 5 Canadians say they’re cancelling or delaying plans to travel across the border. In addition to this, the proportion of Canadians saying they’re boycotting American products or buying more Canadian products is already high and appears to be growing.”

We're very helpfully and politely reminding you that we're your friends who spend money at your attractions and your best customers that bought your stuff, by refusing to travel and buy American for now. The booking level drops and car travel drops of 70% shows Canadians banding together and acting en masse. I am out protesting too with my fellow Canadian in front of Tesla, in front of consulates and embassies, in front of city and provincial legislative buildings, and we're poised to elect someone taking a strong but measured response against Trump rather than MAGA-mini.

Your president is hurting us as Canadians, and your president is hurting you as Americans. This requires action on both our parts, but on different levels since this is an American problem. It seems like the first challenge is getting the public at large to acknowledge that this is a problem. I think the rallies across the nation are a good first step. Keep going and the next steps to action will come as you organize. (Perhaps a general strike?)

We get complaints of barriers to entry but then I see digg doing this...

Someone should set up a open-entry Lemmy server, without an email requirement, but you have to pay $5 for each account you sign up with.

Canadian here. Prove all us naysayers wrong! (I'm pessimistic on America's future but I'm willing to believe there's a chance for change)

Keep going, Apr 19th, every day of action after, escalate until the country is yours again, instead of just for the billionaires, by the billionaires. Then let's talk.

On my worst and most uncertain days, I write down how I feel, what I did today and anything else on my mind in a journal. That way I express the thoughts in my head, and then knowing that they are there means I don't have to keep agonizing all the whatifs, worries and bad thoughts in there and can set them aside.

Hello there.

!general@lemmy.world discussion, you are a bold one.

Yukon-born, BC resident Jasmine Mooney describes the horrifying experience.

Air Canada says there are no concrete numbers or signals yet but they are preparing to decrease the number of US bound trips beginning in March, if cancellations and demand from Canadians decreases.

As we expect another influx of users from the discussion of paywalled subreddits, welcome to everyone who has recently joined or is actively trying to join Lemmy! Feel free to introduce yourself or talk about your first impressions.

And what have you heard from the people around you?
