IMO I doubt there's actually theft of the savings... there's some real chaos. but the savings numbers are all made up with no tie to reality. Moneys not stolen, because the savings were never real... dude's managing to shut down half the functions of the government, lay off hundreds of thousands of people... and failing to reduce costs in the process.

Exactly, brought back as quickly as we can bring back people who are sent there by mistake.

I think all of congress should be required to go to El Salvadore, as well as trump and all of his cabinet.

Anyone who thinks things are fine there, should have to stay there for one week... then be brought back ASAP.

Agreed, even with a time machine... secret service would make it quite difficult. Obviously the morality of killing baby hitler is always a thing.

Really though more morally though you probably could prevent most politicians from being politicians non lethally. Break into the hospital, swap him with another baby. It's a combination of nature and nurture so... if you change the upbringing, he probably won't wind up president.

Well I mean a lot could... George H Bush failed to be popular enough for re-election, so really it's a total shift in everything, and possibly effectiveness of what gets implimented.

The problem with carville and these "left" people... is that the party HAS BEEN distancing themselves. They have been avoiding talking about the topics unless specifically asked. The problem is the right makes it their pillar, so the media specifically asks them. Leaving candidates with the choice of "express support in peoples rights to be themselves" or "oppose their rights to be themselves".

The right won't leave the option to "distance", because they will make sure it's brought up every debate every situation.

Which... would on further notice say... we only know about failures... so yeah any agents in appropriate locations or VPNs using correct credentials would be effectively undetectable.

My point is more or less the already partially existing human controlled drones, though also noting the possibility of say the next wave where they don't go past just getting a target and committing assassinations.

Point is the idea of specific targetted (IE concepts of weapons that could be as precise, as undamaging towards infrastructure as foot soldiers with guns, but without requiring humans that are at least vulnerable to conventional weaponry.

I mean the general problem is what I'd note as what syndrome's plan was in the incredibles.

IE syndrome's plan was basically to create superpowers, making everyone a superhero so that no one is special or above everything...

with the noted exception that the strongest superpowers are reserved for himself.

Biggest thing IMO with the gun rights people is... noting that even if we all have AR-15s or whatever the hell we are supposed to use to stop facism. Millitary tech is getting scarrier. We're probably a year or 2 away from armed boston dynamic style robots, or more focused AI based drones etc....

Our only shot is guys controlling the governments arsenal taking our side.... which is kind of the exact scenerio we are in with or without guns.

I disagree, I think there's plenty of court orders trump could do to test the waters without... well the undeniable fascism that is putting an innocent legal immigrant in a prison forever.

To me there's only 2 reasons not to bring him back... either it's actually impossible (IE he's dead), or he's seen and lived through some conditions that are drastically worse than we know, and they don't want him to talk.

[–] TheFogan@programming.dev 12 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Honestly, my money says probably not. It's quite frankly the best explanation for the solid stubornness of the trump admin. They've basically admitted he shouldn't be there. He's ignoring court orders, and now supreme court orders. The only 2 explanations I can come up with for why they don't want him back is.

  1. The conditions of the prison are significantly worse than our imaginations have allowed us to think they are, and they don't want him to confirm that.

  2. Same as 1, but his corpse rather than his words would be the testament to how bad they are.

Any other scenerio to me seems like the political views here would be so overwhelmingly bad that leaving the confirmed innocent man in prison and defying court orders overwhelms any possible reason not to bring him back.
