Wäre prima, wenn man solche koordiniert unterstützen könnte, bis es irgendwann keinen Kampf gegen Windowsmühlen mehr braucht.

Thank you! You're right, those who interacted under the premise of privacy must not be exposed.

I understand that. Thank you!

Thank you! People could always make a second account on such an instance, maybe even an instance which kind of specializes in it and finds ways to deal with safety challenges.

Private communities (piefed.social)

Are there plans to make private communities accessible/usable without an account on the same instance ?
Is it possible to switch from private to public (and vice versa)?

Edit: I guess solutions for these kind of challenges depend on the specific use case. Could be selfhosting, or agreeing on a instance, or sometimes it doesn't have to be a federated software to begin with.

The one account for all thing is often mentioned as a 'selling point', and as of now I think it's rather ill-advised, setting up disappointment & possibly obershadowing a couple of nice things in that regard. A rather smooth part of the fediverse is that for example comments you read may stem from a lot of different corners, and writing one of those should work fine.

Regarding number of accounts you could experiment with a min or max approach first and then adapt based on your needs and experiences. You could re-use the first half of your handle, as the comment about identity suggested.

Thank you so much for your great work!

That's a possibility, yes. I'm going to suggest a new Community (Piefed) tomorrow, will ping them on that occasion. Thank you!

Thank you, I very much appreciate that offer! I'll continue to look out for people interested in sharing the work and your advice would help a lot then!

Thank you for the link! I think both do and will co-exist allright. I think sooner or later there will be a German instance, so I'm rooting for sooner and for a solid foundation (like feddit.org) rather than a strenuous & vulnerable one person effort (like feddit.de...)

Zunächst mal bin ich der Herr Laymann, den du siehst... ;-) Aber ja, andere Unterstützung als technische geb ich gerne!

Feddit.org is great! But for some (potential) communities Piefed's flairs and tags are really great, for example. I think something like that is planned for Lemmy 1.0, tho.

Inspired by a new introducing video and its reference to https://jointhefediverse.net/ , see link and discussion here: https://piefed.social/post/889659

Jointhefediverse is a great resource for interested people/new users, and for those a link to a community dedicated to questions re the whole fediverse and interaction with regulars could be a nice addition.

I'm only aware of 'Fediverse' communities not specifically for that group, or communities tailored to new users of Piefed (https://piefed.ca/c/newtopiefed) or Lemmy (https://lemmy.ca/c/newtolemmy ). Am I missing something?

The community itself could be set up rather quickly, but maybe we talk about things like name and other basics before?

Elena Rossini's accounts/blogs regarding fediverse, hosting etc. are worth following anyway, now she produced this cool video. Several subtitles were already contributed.

I'm new here and think it's developing very nicely. Congrats and thank you!

Not the most important thing, but maybe it makes sense to collect some feedback on the various translations?

In the german interface 'Note' in the profile section is not translated, yet the word means 'Grade' in German. Combined with Attitude/Verhalten it may come off as social-scorish, which both are not. (Maybe the latter could have a link to the explanation).

A common alternative would be 'Notiz'.
