Been a long time since I read this series, but I'm guessing this one is from the early 80's. Possibly it's even by Bill Sienkiewicz, whose comics work started out perfectly staid and traditional. (before, you know)

Anyway, kind of interesting to have a modern or semi-modern caped superhero who tackles horror plots, sort of a throwback to a comics genre which probably peaked in the 50's, yet still kinda rumbled along in to the 80's, at least.

Original sequence:

Another edit / parody, but this time by the creator / pros, themselves!

This doesn't quite look like Schulz' inks, so I'm guessing they're by Romita. Or maybe "Burkey," whoever that is?

The character is known as "Fisto," due to one hand being by made of iron... or something like that. (seems like a bit of a call-out to a couple classic Shaw Bros Kung-fu films) The only thing I ever touched in that franchise was the old Intellivision videogame, a surprisingly solid game that holds up today.

It seems that a lot of people think this was the original panel, but it's definitely an edit:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comic_strip_switcheroo

46 syndicated artists participated in the event, which was conceived by Baby Blues creators Rick Kirkman & Jerry Scott.[1] Some of the switches were one-for-the-other, while others worked on the strips in sequence (i.e. one author would work on another author's strip, and that strip's regular author would work on another strip, continuing in this way until the sequence ends with the final traded strip). --WP

The whole thing was an elaborate, hyper-organised April Fool's newspaper comics prank from 1997, which I only discovered about this Wednesday. At the time I was simply trying to keep my dumb arse off the streets (not drugs or booze, but my disability), and had completely fallen out of reading my beloved (and sometimes lessly-so, haha) comics pages in the local newspaper.

There's a big article here about that day, with loads more comics examples:

Sorry FP and the reading audience,
I swear to Yahweh I'll get back to pure edits, one of these centuries. It's just that I keep coming across cool content that's only ~half edits or so. Jeepers!

JR "Bob" Dobbs and the Church of the SubGenius is still remarkably active after all this time. Stang has retired but I still see Rev Peas pop up once in a while.

This is another one of those series in which the creator rearranges clip art to make new comics. In this case, old clip art going back to the Victorian Age or so. It's been running for 23yrs now, and its story is worth a read.

New strips are below, with an archive going back to 2003:

Yup, I'm again stretching the rules a tad for this one. As in, it's an edit/parody, not a pure edit. Bring it on! Anyway, here's a few more:

It's been a long time since I first discovered these, so there might be more lurking someres. In any case, Calvert's a really nifty, talented, playful comics art guy. His joint:

send calls for @cowtoolsdaily.bsky.social being reinstated directly to moderation@blueskyweb.xyz if you can help.

Nah, I'm bullshitting, here. No idea the original editor or source; just came up with a series name and upscaled the art a bit. Cheers.
