Just use wood and stainless steel. Both are inexpensive and should be pretty safe.

If you want extra safety, ditch your nonstick teflon type stuff for stainless steel, cast iron, enamel, and/or carbon steel for your pots and pans.

Glass is also fantastic for storage. Bernardin/mason jars last literally forever and they're pretty easy to get used.
