they saw the fire start in the basement section of the club after a bottle containing "birthday candles" was held up too close to the wooden ceiling.

Fuck. I bet it was flimsy wooden panels (a solid wooden floor construction would not catch fire from candles that easily) in a club. Killing dozens for a bit of "rural atmosphere" without thinking of the fire hazard. Whatever idiot came up with that idea is going to pay dearly for it. Criminal idiocy and a total disregard for building and safety codes - still much too common everywhere.

Even worse. Cheaply made polystyrol (or similar) accustic panels.

There are videos available how it started. It's criminal neglience to an extend that will hopefully not only the owners but also the local goverment instance which is responsible for controlling the establishment into courts. Because due to social media posts we know these were installed quite some time ago. So someone did not do their job - these panels are illegal for public venues in Switzerland.

Roxul, basalt mineral wool acoustic panels are basically fireproof. Shame better solutions weren't used.

Yeah. Sadly....they weren't used here.
