Google maps is drunk. I'm at the blue dot & wanted to see how long it would take to walk to the red flag and this is the route it suggested. (europe.pub)

Do you have a midpoint set at the grey dot with a (1) ?

I have entered no such settings. Anyway I clicked start and it sorted itself out. It told me it's a straight route, a 37 minute walk.

Okay now for the bonus challenge since I've told you all my location, come find me while I'm out walking LOL

I think the grey dot with a 1 is highway 1

Yeah, but the only way I could replicate the route was by adding a midpoint there, and there is a different shade of gray dot next to the (1).
