I get that, but they don't get that far right is always a change for the worse. This knowledge eludes my EU country as well.

The electorate don't know shit. They just know when someone is offering an actual change (doesn't matter what change) that will punish someone. Far Right parties say that minorities are taking everything and they will be punished. "Left" parties like Labour (UK/Aus), Liberals (Can) or the Dems have been saying everything is fine and refuse to control billionaires and corporations and just handwave away the material concerns of the voters.
