The RCMP can apply the lessons it learned at an Israeli military seminar last year to “Canadian law enforcement contexts.”

And handguns and the 15,000 models of rifle.

The hard truth is that gun laws in Canada were never about crime or mass shooting trends they were always about racism and suppressing labor trends. The modern 90s bans that kicked off the current licensing scheme was done as a result of the Oka crisis. They used AKs as their principle rifle. So they banned them afterward. The ar-15 was temporarily spared until it became the latest boogie man.

No matter how you slice it it's US politics bleeding north. Canada has/had perfectly effective gun laws and it's the RCMP who are incompetent.

Personally I never cared about all the 'scary looking' guns getting banned. Those were all range/show guns afaic.

SKS is a true weapon of war though. Half gun, half club, half spear. Perfect for asymmetric warfare in the Canadian wild.
