Since the announcement of the Defence Industrial Strategy, Canada has said it will spend billions on missile systems from Lockheed Martin. National Defence Minister David McGuinty has also argued that Palantir Canada — a branch of the American billionaire-founded artificial intelligence company working with Israel — is a Canadian company.

Eighty-two per cent said Canada should “defend itself without relying too heavily on other countries,” the poll found. U.S. companies, including those operating subsidiaries in Canada, were the least favoured.

Just like with the majority foreign-owned fossil fuel industry in Alberta, 'our' Government will give money to foreign/US corporations and sell it to us (with no questions asked by mainstream media) as 'sovereignty'. Obviously anyone who thinks the CPC offers something better for working Canadians is delusional

It's always a grift with these types. Only an ideologue that would stand against private international capital and really invest domestically would do the thing for real. Sovereign defence means creating the specialists across the stack from R&D through engineering and manufacturing, in Canada. Then creating the local industry that makes the things we need to make. Only then we'll get the meaningful decoupling Canadians seem to want, along with any military keynesianism benefits for this spending. But that'll take years to decades of consistent public industrial policy to achieve. Otherwise we're just padding the pockets of American capital. Barring that, buying from RTX and Palantir's Canadian subs is just business as usual with sovereign marketing, in the hope people don't perceive the gov't as not standing up for Canada while betting we won't have to use those weapons as a deterrent against the US. In other words, elbows up marketing, while waiting for the US to "get back to normal."
