Normies dont like my answer of "Just steal" when they complain about stuff like this.

  1. hear about show
  2. wait 2 days
  3. download show for free via torrent
  4. watch show uninterrupted at 1080p and high bitrate
  5. gg

Probably saying that that's how long it takes to propagate to their trackers

[–] Dagnet@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Sonarr usually picks it up on the same day for me

[–] jenings@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Same day if even kinda slack. Typically hits within an hour of airing, it’s like a better dvr

[–] raspirate@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Some shows are online before it's even done airing because people have cracked the streaming platform and can download directly as soon as it drops. Hour long show that premieres at 9pm? If it's popular, it'll be online by 9:15.

Yea but ~~usually~~ sometimes things like that are low quality, in the wrong language, or sometimes have other issues with them or are even fake/malware. Best to give it a few hours at least before allowing releases to be downloaded.

Very true. All my shit's automated these days anyway, but I remember back when Mr. Robot was still on air, I'd always be checking the torrent sites starting about 10 min after the episode dropped and I very rarely had to actually wait a full hour for it to appear. Fun times, and a very fitting show.

Love Mr. Robot!

[–] Funkt4st1c@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Someone with access to rip it

[–] turtlesareneat@piefed.ca 13 points 4 days ago

I was for a while. Cut the "cable" in 2003 and was happy to pay a few bucks for a streaming service here or there, more convenient than pirating. But now... well I cancelled them all and am right back to where I was years ago. They are so happy to kill the golden goose.

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago (2 children)

There are a few, still decent streaming services, the small time ones, like curiosity stream, but yeah by and large yo ho ho.

[–] remon@ani.social 21 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (2 children)

That reminds me ... I have curiosity stream.

edit: lol, they almost tripled their price, too!

...

[–] Enkrod@feddit.org 17 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (2 children)

Holy shit... I told myself I'd go to Curiosity Stream once they accepted different payment methods than credit cards but DAMN SON! That price...

Edit: Oh wait... that's annually... okay, I'm still with it.

Edit2: And I got them mixed up with Nebula, that's where I really wanted to go... damn.

[–] djdarren@piefed.social 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I've got Nebula. Took 'em up on a deal on an annual sub when Tom Scott started his new series on there.

It's...fine.

It's nice to watch channels like Mr Mobile without adverts, but channels like Not Just Bikes and Mustard already run on YT without ads. Sure, there's an ad for Nebula at the end their episodes, but it's right at the end, so is easily skipped.

Don't get me wrong, there's loads of stuff on there, but discovery isn't particularly easy, and most of it is USA-centric, which doesn't really interest me.

[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I finally got around to remembering to try out Nebula, and I get disappointed because most of the time I forget I have it. Like you, a lot of what I watch is already on YT, and my wife has a grandfathered (for now) premium account which we can share, so I already have ad free YT.

I agree on the discovery too. It feels like I have to work to find something that strikes my fancy if it's not from someone I'm already familiar with.

Not sure if creators having easier access would make it better, and I like seeing what channels are real creators and not AI, but I find once I find someone I like on Nebula, I just watch them on YT instead. I'd really like to support them, but I'm struggling to feel the added value a bit.

[–] Grail@multiverse.soulism.net 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

When your premium dies, install ublock origin and sponsorblock

[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Already running ublock on everything I touch. It's so weird when I go on someone else's computer or phone and see ads on YT!

I was running something with sponsor block in the past, whatever app it was that needed that MicroG utility to install/update, but once that stopped working with Chromecast, i quit bothering with that, but I did love it.

Edit2: And I got them mixed up with Nebula, that’s where I really wanted to go… damn.

I have the lifetime sub for that one ... so at least no price increases :D

[–] swicano@programming.dev 5 points 4 days ago

Oh that's per year! Not quite as bad as I thought

[–] makeshiftreaper@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Dropout is one I have no issues paying for too

[–] Funkt4st1c@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

Valid. I love paying for dropout knowing its cheap, ill like what they put out, and Game Changer exists

[–] tio_bira@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 4 days ago
