Not always, but often, people can save more and retire <60yo if they learn about it and plan ahead. Some people's identity is too tied to work and worry about losing that and don't want to leave. Of course companies should pay workers more and have benefits like in better countries, including healthcare for all, so boss can't use that leverage. Healthy lifestyle reduces common health issues too, cook at home healthy, mindfulness and be active. It all works together, simple living, improve skills for more income, side work, and DIY saves money, live healthier, keep adding FIRE skills for more autonomy, better health and retirement fund. Mustachians unite!

My grandpa is ~10 years retired after working as a pharmacist his whole career. He's calling my parents every month, asking for help with his rent and groceries because he can't afford both at once with his retirement and social security payments.

Mind you, my grandmother did taxes and financials for small businesses, so it's not like my grandparents weren't set up. But my grandma's health went down, hospital bills ate all of their savings, and now that she's passed, my grandpa can't afford anything.

It's not so black and white as "save more and just be healthy". Not even close
