Montgomery said Ukraine’s ability to deny Russia control of the Black Sea without deploying large naval vessels was one of the most significant military achievements of the war. In his view, Ukraine’s future naval strength lies in a combination of anti-ship missiles, unmanned surface and underwater vehicles, aerial drones and intelligence—rather than large ships vulnerable to missile strikes.

Ultimately, he said, Ukraine’s advantage lies not only in technology but in resilience. “You have shown the strongest societal resilience in the world,” he said. “Authoritarian empires come here to die.”

Ukraine and Japan should talk - iirc, the JSDF is currently deploying lasers and railguns. Some battlefield testing could be quite interesting and valuable for both system.

Japan should just stop fucking around and let Ukraine have a gundam or two

They could even get a Zord out of that deal if they play their cards right.

Could Ukraine just make a whole pile of these submersibles, and just anchor them somewhere underwater wherever they think they might be useful, and then as intelligence comes in that something is nearby, turn it back on and attack?

Like a mobile underwater mine?

H I Sutton has a great write up of remote submersibles including the recent, utterly groundbreaking infiltration at Novorossiysk.

Destroying (most likely) a Russian Kilo class sub.

The precision, the insane level of ability to remote pilot a submersible into a Russian naval base is just off the scale.
