NGL, HP printers WRT the cost of the ink was the main reason I pivoted to the Epson Eco-tanks.. (Which DO have their own issues, but at a fraction of the cost to remedy)
Also, the HP software for Apple computers (going all the way back to the classic MacOSes) has been just terrible in use and application.
HP requiring their own stupid application that you could only install from the Microsoft store was a giant pain in the ass for my company when everyone was working from home during COVID. That by itself made me swear to never buy anything HP for the rest of my life.
We are still stuck with HP. We extract and install the universal print drivers, then manually create the port and then just join the two together using print management.
It's fiddly to set up, but it keeps the printer in line.
Members of the International Imaging Technology Council (Int’l ITC) are calling out HP for issuing firmware updates that brick third-party ink and toner functionality in its printers. HP calls this Dynamic Security and has been doing it for years; however, the Int’l ITC is taking new issue with the practice, considering that it is explicitly prohibited for devices registered under the Global Electronics Council’s (GEC’s) Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) 2.0 registry.
