Inb4 'big game hunters are animal conservationists' crowd arrives

I can accept that it may be necessary to cull sometimes and still think this is awesome

I don’t think overpopulation is sufficient justification. By that logic it would also be acceptable to cull humans since they are overpopulated

I'm ok with culling humans but only IF we start with war mongering idiots and all billionaires first.

After fair redistribution of control and resources, etc, then give it a few years and see if we need to cull again.

Guillotine time is a calling!!! Can I suggest that NetanYAHOO and the orange child rapist go first?

Claiming we're overpopulated is literally ecofascist rhetoric. By what metric are we overpopulated? Using too much land and resources?

Did you know if everyone went vegan, the space used for farmland (which accounts for a large portion of "human" space) could be reduced by as much as 75%? (https://ourworldindata.org/land-use-diets)

Granted, the whole world will not turn vegan, but I don't think we'll start culling people either. There are many, many things we could do to reduce resource usage (or other overpopulation metric) that would have minimal or no impact on us as a species.

Consider also that populations of "wealthy" countries tend to slow in growth, plateau, or even shrink over time (see Japan).

I do agree overpopulation is not sufficient justification for culling any species.

I’m actually a diehard committed vegan, but that’s why I’m against hunting too

the evidence for this claim is poore-nemecek 2018, which is poorly methodized.

Agreed: the culling of big game hunters sometimes is necessary and awesome.

I'm sorry the reality is inconvenient to your preconceived notion

Millionaires are closer to us plebes than they are to billionaires. The average American will earn over a million dollars in their working life.

It takes a thousand million to make it to billion.

This guy probably deserved his fate to be clear.

How does the crosspost listing on Lemmy work?

The original post (just 10 minutes earlier) is here but is not shown in the list of crossposts for this post. Why?

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

One down, plenty to go.

I'm not normally one for schadenfreude, but lately I've been willing to make exceptions for certain types of people. Does that make me a bad person?

That makes you someone with a sense of justice and a conscious and morals.
