Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Donald Trump has threatened that Iran will be “blown off the face of the earth” if it attacks US vessels trying to reopen a route through the strait of Hormuz.

The US launched an operation on Monday to help hundreds of ships trapped with their crews in the Gulf, dragging the region back to the brink of full-scale war.

Over 800 ships and roughly 20,000 crew members remain stranded in the region.

USA nukes good Iran having them bad. That's the global narrative driven by the country threatening to nuke Iran.

Threatening war crimes again, eh?

All you had to do is not do the stupid blockade, Iran at that point was ready to open the damn strait, ships were going through. Now we 'll have stupid pointless escalations because fuck the global trade

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 51 points 1 week ago (2 children)

All he had to do was not shred the Iran deal we already had in place (and was working) because it was negotiated and put into effect under a president who was black.

[–] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 21 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Too many people seem to forget about this...

That's like 95% of the reason he shredded it. Same reason he claims he deserves a Nobel Peace Prize, outright hates ACA, and did everything he could to undo literally everything Obama did.

Exactly the same reason he cut the Directorate for Global Health Security and Biodefense, which was Obama's defense when H7N9 broke out. Then COVID came and no response group

When there’s eventually a deal with Iran, it’s not going to be as good as the one we already had with them but he’s going to say it’s the best deal ever and his base won’t know any better. It’s such a stupid time we live in.

All you had to do is not do the damn blockade, DJ!

A negative times a negative.

This is that elementary school bully that walks up to a kid and punches them because they think it's funny, but when the kid punches back the bully goes crying straight to the teacher.

[–] nednobbins@lemmy.zip 34 points 1 week ago

This train wreck is as painful to watch as a B horror movie.

This numbnut is walking into an obvious trap. They're baiting major assets of the USN using ratty little fast boats.

Now that they're in striking range, their defense have to be lucky every single day, multiple times per day. If the Iranians are lucky once, they destroy billions of dollars in hardware, get major bragging rights, and thousands of GI families at home get to look up the lyrics to "Fortunate Son."

Content warning: needless uninvited pedantry ahead

Trump acts like a toddler. And any parent can tell you that predicting the inevitably dumb behavior of your toddler isn't rocket science.

He's so predictably stupid and selfish that most of the time, everyone else but him knows what he's doing. It's a fun meme but I think the reality is the opposite.

More like the “shart of war”

[–] BillyClark@piefed.social 15 points 1 week ago

I know it's a joke, but people who don't know what they are doing are relatively easy to predict.

[–] DiarrheaSommelier@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

, leaving all the ships still stranded except for the 14 that the USA somehow sank by mistake. Oopsie Daisy!

[–] Omgpwnies@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

sounds like 14 ships that are no longer stranded, an absolute win! MURICA!

I really hope Americans have learned something from this and that is to not elect demented pedophiles to be presidents FUCKING TWICE, third time's the charm right? right?? And while everyone else is trying to deescalate the situation he and his "top" officials are trying to make it as difficult as possible to reach a peaceful solution.

[–] rozodru@piefed.world 22 points 1 week ago (1 children)

come on now you think the yanks have learned something? they haven't learned a thing for decades. Did they learn anything after Reagan? Bush Senior? Bush Jr twice? you honestly expect them to figure it out NOW?

[–] dan1101@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago (2 children)

A good percentage of the US population would elect Satan himself as long as he was "sticking it to the liberals."

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 week ago

Satan as in Lucifer? The light bringer? The symbol of knowledge and enlightened thought? That Satan?

Would be way better than what we have right now.

Please lose the midterms and get dragged out of office, it would be so funny

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 15 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Honestly even if Congress is swept by Democrats, I would be completely unsurprised if the controlled opposition faction of the DNC (read: the vast majority of them) does nothing at all due to how diViSiVE it would be. And even if they do, the Tribunal of Six will probably try to declare impeachment unconstitutional or something like that.

[–] ChunkMcHorkle@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The leftist candidates that have been winning these various special elections by double-digit spreads over highly-favored right-wing candidates are not dems, they're progressives. Same label, very different flavor.

And I am totally here for that. It's been fun watching them quietly form a party within the party.

What exactly does he think "closed" means?

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 6 points 1 week ago

The same thing he thinks women and children's closed legs means.

[–] iglou@programming.dev 11 points 1 week ago

Again?! Isn't Iran supposed to be vaporized three times over by now?

[–] TryingToBeGood@reddthat.com 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So are we at war or not? Last week he said the war was over because there was a cease fire in place. Then, over the weekend, when asked about gas prices, he said they’d drop immediately “after the war was over.” So which is it, donnie? Make up your mind, you brainless pos.

[–] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I wish the press would collectively start talking to him this way at conferences. Word for word. 😂

Trump has become Kim Jong Un at this point.
"We're going to blow up everything! Just you watch!"

Let me tell you, Don... They're not listening to you. No one is listening to you. Laughing at you maybe, but no one is seriously paying attention to your late night war mongering ramblings.

[–] grimpy@lemmy.myserv.one 4 points 1 week ago

Feckless feculence mainly resides at the Florida Blight House whilst Kegsbreath Kevin prosecutes their war crimes against humanity in the Caribbean, the Middle East & elsewhere, draining the USA of resources once utilized to care for our friends, families & neighbors in our various communities.

He couldnt even successfully escort ships for 2 days. And he is not able to keep those ships supplied. How is he going to threaten iran with much of anything? What are we going to do, bleed on them?
