"The underlying fact was that the whole position of the moneyed class had long ceased to be justifiable. The existence of these people was by any standard unjustifiable. They were simply parasites, less useful to society than his fleas are to a dog." - George Orwell

Orwell was a rapist, anti-communist, pro-imperialist, nazi simp. Animal farm did more anti-communist propaganda than any other work since it's assigned to children in schools. Fuck Orwell.

I think youre giving him too much credit. If it wasnt for the obscene amount of money that the usa invested on him, he woldnt have achieved even a fraction of what he did. Because his writing was too mediocre.

Also, you forgot to mention his crimes as a colonialist in India.

Thanks for the info.

Edit: I will keep the original comment below, but basically (content warning for mention of attempted rape), George Orwell was reported to have tried to rape his girlfriend, which was reported in a Guardian article

I just remember Hakim making a video about how George Orwell was a terrible person (though I do not remember what exactly the video talked about).

He was also an anti-communist and a snitch.

and he went on the record to defend Hitler... in 1939. From his review of Mein Kampf (did it really need to be reviewed at all btw???)

Jar Jar Wells compared Hitler to Jesus Christ and Prometheus and ppl get confused why I loathe him.
Also funny to see him do the "if I was on the plane during 9/11 I would've kicked their asses!!1!" thing with Hitler who was still very much alive at the time

He also never went to the Soviet Union as far as I knew, or even had any sources to prove his depictions of the Soviet Union as fact.

Oh, I didn't know about that. I'll have to check it out.

I personally take every opportunity I can to show people Isaac Asimov's review of 1984:

Link to Red Sails - Asimov on 1984

Hmm, I have a question: Are they implying that Stalin and Mao are tyrants like Hitler and Mussolini? That comes across as lib stuff to me, but it is on a communist website...

[–] sunbleachedfly@lemmygrad.ml 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I didn't read it that way. I don't think Asimov has any personal affinity toward ML projects, though. I think he just thought Orwell's personal animosity toward Stalin in particular led him to write a shitty book when there were much more important things to critique in the world at the time (especially in Europe).

They said "We have to remember, though, that the world of the late 1940s, during which Orwell was writing his book, was one in which there had been, and still were, big governments with true tyrants — individuals whose every wish, however unjust, cruel or vicious, was law [not how any government works]. What’s more, it seemed as though such tyrants were irremovable except by the chance of outside force."

They then proceeded to list off examples of supposed tyrants that were "deposed", with the examples of note being Mao and Stalin.
