This is the the death threat, btw:
bro I'm literally putting a curse on you rn. you're going to die soon
Damn, I wonder why misogyny got a longer ban than that. /s
This is a community in the spirit of "Am I The Asshole" where people can post their own bans from lemmy or reddit or whatever and get some feedback from others whether the ban was justified or not.
Sometimes one just wants to be able to challenge the arguments some mod made and this could be the place for that.
All posts should follow this basic structure:
Expect to receive feedback about your posts, they might even be negative.
Make sure you follow this instance's code of conduct. In other words we won't allow bellyaching about being sanctioned for hate speech or bigotry.
YTPB matrix channel: For real-time discussions about bastards or to appeal mod actions in YPTB itself.
Some acronyms you might see.

Death threats are a heat-of-the-moment infraction, people don't usually mean it.
In contrast, misogyny reveals a deeply flawed character of the commenter, that makes them incompatible with participation in the community.
Death threats even in the heat of the moment are at best legally a grey area and could be seen as a felony.
Being a dick or a clown is 100% legal
Consider the two following statements:
"[Insert Racial Group] people should not be allowed to exist, they are inferior beings. They should be sterilized so these filthy roaches stop procreating."
"If these health insurance CEOs keep denying claims, I'm gonna to their place and shoot them"
The first one is protected free speech in the USA.
Thw second one is potentially an illegal threat.
But which commenter is a worse person? Which one is more deserving of a ban?
Ydi
It was the same mod that did both bans?
It is. (i'm a mod of the community, but i only removed comments in that thread) tbh i'm not sure what blaze's thought process was here so i'll ask him and see what he thinks. Personally i would've just banned them all for a week.
You'll have to forgive my lack of Lemmy knowledge idk how to see which mod issues the bans.
If it was not the same mod then it really does not fit here.
I am unaware of any way to tell which mod specifically issued the ban so I apologize
There are some apps that show it, and I believe tesseract web view does as well.
~~If it was two different mods there is no comparing them especially if it was two different communities, which likely have different rules.~~
Edit: never mind, the images finally loaded and it is the same community. I thought it was two different communities.
Yeah same community
wat da actual frickity fuck
Have you ever been to Reddit? Surely have. And most probably you're here because of Reddit's moderators are completely crazy. Well, moderators here are completely the same. They are just fewer and more lazy.
Just make another account if that community is really important for you.
Nah I don't give a shit about the community I am/was just flabbergasted that they rate a misogynistic comment as worse than death threats.
That's just insane.
If I was a woman I could see how online misogyny would affect me in a real way, being unable to participate in and feel welcome in communities day to day.
An anonymous flame war death threat does not actually materially affect someone, unless there's some reason to think it's serious, the odds of which are negligible.
No one's saying actual murder is less bad than misogyny, for fucks sake.
I mean my "misogynistic comment" was basically just me saying that women are typically the ones I see making that type of specific verbal attack.
No different than someone saying they think men are bad at listening in certain contexts which I can pretty much guarantee nobody would report or get banned for in any way for saying.
Yes there are some ridiculous mod actions here, I just said that portraying them as being more sympathetic to murder than misogyny is specious.
I wouldn't even say that's what I was trying to portray. More just how ridiculous the ban was in context of the whole situation. My comment wasn't really misogynistic and their response seems out of scale with the punishment they gave to someone who told me they hoped I died in several creative ways.
Death threats against somebody the hive mind don't like are acceptable
That's just human nature for ya.
