Well: So far we no nothing about "thundermail"; and mozilla is already struggling with just making firefox good. Why not tuta/posteo/mailbox.org/disroot? Why put all your eggs in one basket? I'm already feeling uneasy with just using firefox.

[–] fxomt@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 23 minutes ago

I used disroot for some time, it's great; but it still doesn't have encryption sadly. I think they're working on it though but you need to manually email your GPG key to them, so they can add it. It took me a couple of weeks to get a reply (understandable, the guy who handles it was busy)

I love ente, but it doesn't fit this community by the way.

Not wanting to sound pedantic tho, sorry.

Are you sure? It's still broken from my side

[–] fxomt@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

@fossilesque@lemmy.dbzer0.com apologies for the bother, but i know you're an active mander.xyz user, do you know what might've happened? or is there a matrix for the instance? Thanks in advance

I wouldn't exactly say i'm good at it, but i'm pretty stubborn and keep trying. But i've actually memorized 5 writing systems, so at least i'm good at one thing :)

[–] fxomt@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 13 hours ago (5 children)

For latin, i can't remember actually. I just like how i can read old texts.

For ukrainian, i wanted to learn a slavic language; i was going with russian first, but ukrainian has more in relation with other slavic languages so it'd be easier to learn it, in case i ever wanted to learn another slavic language.

I'm also learning esperanto/hebrew very casually, since for esperanto i love the grammar system, and hebrew is very related to arabic so i understand a lot of it.

Better programming skills. I've been programming for years, i just suck :D Today, i submitted my first proper PR to an FOSS project (https://codeberg.org/lemshare/lemshare/pulls/4) and i just wrote my first matrix bot for a room for instance admins. It converts all links to use lemmyverse.link, as a convenience.

I have no idea if they like it or not, but i'm personally proud of what i did. The code for both is pretty hacky.

Besides that? Learning latin and ukrainian :)

Haha lol. Thanks for the great event btw :) (just uhh, make it optional next time lol. i couldnt use photon at all during that day c:)

Can't wait to see what you have next in stock next year lmao

It’s not great for the regular 9-to-5

No pain no gain. This'd boost my efficiency by 50%.

MASTER BOOT RECORD and KEYGEN CHURCH (same guy behind them!)

When i first heard the news, it felt surreal. But when that passed, i felt nothing.

I don't really know what to do or feel. I saw her only a few days ago, and that was the first time i have saw her in years. She barely talked, she had alzheimers. She didn't remember anyone. I remember as a child, seeing her handicapped but still able to have conversation and conscious.

I only have a few memories of her. It's so vague, since those were when i was 6 or something. The only clear memory is of her yelling at me as a child. Or maybe not her, my memory is unreliable.

Half an hour later, it sunk in. She's dead. I will never see her again. Just.. I don't know. I'm so confused. I'm a little teary eyed but the rest is just static. What of it? What do i expect to gain from this post? I don't know. I just wanted to tell someone. I just feel like shit.

Although this is a talk an ATProto-related conference, this has direct applicability to Mastodon and Lemmy instances.

Interstellar (!interstellar@kbin.earth) has added Piefed support!

How do i try?

Install interstellar from the play store/F-droid, and create an account on https://preferred.social/ (only instance with the API enabled, get join code from invite). Then, login from interstellar and you're done!

What's next?

Well, andrew is working on porting thunder to piefed (the main dev of it is interested in it) Admiral patrick said he might port tesseract to piefed, once the API is stable, and ae_harding said he may add it after lemmy 1.0.

Thank you @andrew_s@piefed.social, @olorin99@kbin.earth and @jwr1@kbin.earth for working tirelessly to implement this :D

Kurds in Iraq and Syria this week marked the Newroz festival, a traditional celebration of spring and renewal, at a time when many are hoping that a new political beginning is on the horizon.

Newroz, the Farsi-language word for “new year,” is an ancient Persian festival that is celebrated in countries including Iraq, Syria, Turkey and Iran. It is characterized by colorful street festivals and torch-bearing processions winding their way into the mountains.

For many, Thursday and Friday’s Newroz festivities symbolized not only the arrival of spring but also the spirit and aspirations of the Kurdish people, who are now facing a moment of transformation in the region.

FINALLY ON TIME THIS WEEK

The Sudanese army seized full control of the presidential palace in downtown Khartoum on Friday, it said in a statement, in what would be a major gain in a two-year-old conflict with a rival armed group that has threatened to partition the country.

The RSF has consolidated control in the west, hardening battle lines and moving Sudan towards de facto partition. The RSF is setting up a parallel government in areas it controls, although that is not expected to secure widespread international recognition.

The RSF said on Friday, hours after the army statement, that it remained in the vicinity of the palace, and that it had launched an attack that had killed dozens of army soldiers inside.

Note: This uses github sponsors, which is a microsoft owned middleman as @poVoq@slrpnk.net mentioned. I heavily recommend https://liberapay.com/ as an alternative. The idea of the project is solid, though

I personally think this is a good idea. FOSS is amazing but it needs some funding in reality. What are your thoughts?

This week we’ve been monitoring the TestFlight of version 25.03.2 which is our first build of the app with Rust’s event cache enabled. There have been numerous fixes in the SDK following all of the feedback we received and we’re planning to make a second TestFlight next week with all of these fixes incorporated.

matrix-rust-sdk

The Event Cache (matrix_sdk::event_cache) is a new API that stores all your events. It now supports lazy-loading, and thus provides an improved offline support, but also a much faster user experience. Before adding more features, we are tackling the last bugs. And, oh, how nasty they are. We can group the patches in a couple of categories.

Old devices? Low-end devices? You're in our hearts and you're not forgotten! A couple of patches improve the performance and reduce the memory usage greatly!

The memory usage of a Client has been reduced by a factor of 65'536 times

SqliteEventCacheStore is 35 times faster, yup, you read it well
