I shit you not, just last year on 
I got into a long argument about just this with another user. They literally said to just pick a place you want to work, walk in, firm hand shake and look the owner in the eyes.
"I would like to speak to the owner."
"The owner of the building and the owner of this company are currently flying in separate jets to a film festival in Switzerland about climate crisis."
Just walk right in and shake Mr Blackrock by the hand
still how it works.
In Venezuela we call that “palanca”.
that still happens here regularly. we call it having a "party" (it comes from the political party where in the past you had to have a contact in order to join a party). nepotism still reigns supreme though (which itself is another form of party)
