I learned the term only a few days ago but I didn't google it. It seemed to be a very old-fashioned phrase and very English. I googled it right now. A Redditor said
Calling someone an "old sock" is a thing, but not meant as a insult. It's used for old people in an endearing way.

Dems really love " l e a d e r s h i p " too. The concept is a thought terminating cliché for them. Libs poke fun at Trump endlessly when he says stuff like "straight out of central casting". But Newsom is exactly that for libs. He's Obama 2.0. For them he looks the part of a leader with strong leadership skills who knows how to lead.

Trump tells an aide - "You know what? I just got a real, real good idea. Make a post 'Law and order must be maintained. Very, very big reveal tomorrow.' "
The aide says "What is the big reveal?"
