pretty chill for me, just working on a drawing that was supposed to be birthday present to myself (now belated but oh well) & watching a video game stream VOD for the illusion of company.

hope you enjoy Obsession, i haven't seen yet but everyone i know who has seen it seems to have liked it!

Happy belated birthday! I’d love to see the drawing if you feel like sharing.

Oooh, I really like the witchy/fantasy vibe! It looks great! How long have you been drawing?

[–] discoplasm@quokk.au 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

ahh thanks! i have been drawing for a little over 2 years now, so i still have a lot to learn, but i am enjoying the journey very much!

Just 2 years? You’re good! My son loves to draw, and it took him a while to get good, but he’s loving it now.

Enjoying the process is so important, it’s what life is all about!

If you ever feel like it and if your creation fits, feel free to share your art on !weird_art@lemmy.world - we use the term “weird” in the most wholesome and positive way because we are weirdos ourselves.

cheers, i joined the community! occasionally i will post on !artshare@lemmy.world or !shitty_art_share@piefed.social but it's always good to have some other places to see others' work & post too. i feel like a lot of what i do doesn't really fit many places so weird probably works for me as an umbrella.

and good on your son for sticking with drawing, i think it takes a strong will to push through the initial awkward period & the frustrations it can bring, but it is so rewarding once things start coming out closer to how you wanted them.

Just got back from a motorcycle ride with my dad. Right now I'm taking bong rips and listening to music (Animals as Leaders, both the band and the album), and in a bit I'm having friends over for board games. Shaping up to be a good Sunday :)

Glad you're enjoying your movie!

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

That’s awesome! I only ever went on one motorcycle ride, and as a passenger, but it was awesome. It was in the Blue Ridge mountains in Virginia, a beautiful place for a ride.

Enjoy your bong rips and music, and then later, your company!

Chores and drinking vodka cranberries because we got vodka for vodka sauce but now they're most of a bottle left.

The garden is doing okay. It's growing tomatoes, despite husband thinking it's still only flowers. TOMATOES

Okay they're small. Also put out water for the ground critters. The old plastic tub cracked from the weather.

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Those are definitely more than flowers! What else are you growing this year?

And enjoy the vodka cranberries!

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I only grew the tomatoes last year, but added jalapeños. So far only one outside and it hasn't produced shit yet. Neither have the ones inside. Maybe next year I'll add pickling cucumbers!

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Pickling cucumbers sounds like an excellent choice. Have you ever tried pickled green beans?

[–] RebekahWSD@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah, as a kid I must have, given a core memory is sitting next to a bathtub FILLED with green beans and snapping of both ends and then mom and dad removing them.

They must have been made into pickled green beans, I just don't remember the taste at all!

I only got my electric pressure canner last holidays, so after any harvest, so tomatoes it was since those can be water bath canned!

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Growing up in Russia, I ate pickled cucumbers as well as pickled tomatoes and even apples. Although I think the more accurate term is brined because the solution contained no vinegar. They were delicious! I bet radishes would be good pickled too.

Wife is out and I'm spending all day sitting on the couch with my laptop working on some game design docs, with trashy fantasy movies on the TV with the sound down (just finished Deathstalker, Spine of Night on now) and my goth music playlist up loud. Pretty much a perfect Sunday.

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That sounds awesome! Glad we both got to have a perfect Sunday.

If you were to recommend just one artist off your goth playlist, who would it be?

[–] SamuraiBeandog@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Dead Can Dance. Their style changes over time but their first 3 albums are their main goth phase, imo.

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Thank you, I shall check them out! Always nice to listen to some new music, especially when someone vouches for it.

[–] SamuraiBeandog@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

No sweat, let me know what you think.
