Man europe hates Americans as much as they hate Romani people

[–] WereCat@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago

When I went to Japan I didn't tip because it was rude.

If I'll go to USA I won't tip unless I want to because expecting tips is rude.

America has entered the smug European fucking over the locals phase of being a third world country

Do waiters in Europe get paid a living wage and live comfortably? Serious question

[–] hOrni@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You can't get paid below minimum wage.

Is EU minimum wage a livable wage?

[–] thisNotMyName@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago

In Germany it's possible, but borderline poor. So tips are important to the waiters, but tips are an optional thing for good service and the usual amount is around 10%. Some shops start suggesting crazy tips when paying by card, but it's socially accept to select 0% in this case

Depends on the country. And what You consider "living". In my country, I don't think so.

Fun fact: These states require tippable workers to be paid the full minimum wage:

  • Alaska
  • California
  • Guam
  • Minnesota
  • Nevada
  • Oregon
